Community Service

My wife and I have been foster parents in Craighead County since December, 2005. During that time we have fostered approximately 25 children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 17 years of age.

Date available for employment

June 16, 2008-I would prefer to finish out the school year, but I would be willing to start when needed.

Professional Background

I have been a band director in the Arkansas public schools for 25 years. I will retire from that profession at the end of this school year. During that time, I have worked in large schools (Texarkana and Blytheville) and small schools (Marked Tree and East Poinsett County). I have been at my current position at East Poinsett County for the past 15 years.

Qualifications

The most important skill I have developed over the past 25 years is the ability to work with all types of people, regardless of their age or background. As a band director, I have been responsible for overseeing and guiding the work of booster groups whose members are the parents of my students.

I have planned the details for trips on which I have taken students and some of their parents. These details not only include the itinerary, but also transportation, accommodations, meals, as well as fundraising. With the fundraising projects, I chose what fundraisers we would do as well as kept track of all money the students would earn, allowing the students to earn their own spending money as well. My bands have taken trips to Branson, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Orlando. Attention to detail has been a must.

I have been responsible for working within the budgets I have been given over the years. During that time, I have become quite successful at finding the best bargain without having to sacrifice quality. At my current job, the superintendent as well as the school board have enough confidence in me to give my program what I feel is needed without hesitation or undue concern. I am not frivolous with other’s money.

Goals

As stated earlier, I will be retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. I am looking forward to a new career, not just a job to pass the time and collect a paycheck. I am aware that I do not know as much as I would like about your company, but I am an intelligent person who can learn quickly and will welcome constructive criticism. I know I can be an asset to your company and hopefully we can find something that will be suitable for us both.
