Fill-In Advocate

I am available to be called upon to staff the shelter or fill-in for community presentations if the need arises. My duties are essentially the same as they were when I was the Children’s Advocate.

I am responsible for meeting with and providing case management to clients and their children who have experienced domestic violence in their homes. I also meet with teenagers who may have experienced dating violence. I speak to classes of students at various schools in the Dodge County area about domestic violence and dating violence. I am also responsible for answering the crisis line, provide referrals to other agencies, approve potential clients for shelter, provide care for in-house clients, and other housekeeping tasks as needed. I attended the WCADV conference in November of 2008. I am also a certified trainer for Shaken Baby Syndrome. I am also familiar with the laws of confidentiality and am required to abide by them.

Although I was only at this employer for 6 months, I was able to gain a lot of experience working with “at risk” youths. I was responsible for enforcing rules and regulations, filling out daily progress reports, charting on any changes in behavior, meeting with other supervisors at shift change, making recommendations for treatment options and assigning daily household tasks as well as making sure the youth attended school within the facility and monitoring the hallways during school hours. I was also trained in safe crisis management and CPR. I had to leave the facility due to my pregnancy and the risk to my unborn child.

I am very interested in studying the realm of psychology and how it pertains to the criminal justice system.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am a full time mother of a 7 year old girl and an 11-month-old boy. They are my pride and joy. I enjoy reading to them and playing games with them. I also enjoy playing dance games on the Wii with my daughter.
