The education sessions aimed at helping adolescents and adults in substance abuse treatments to gain self-confidence and get back to drug-free life. I successfully marketed this program “” Protect Yourself” by utilizing concepts from social marketing theory. I was also involved with HIV counseling, testing and case management. These sessions utilized Health Belief Model to bring about changes in people’s behavior.

I worked extensively on the research project on Sexually Transmitted disease including AIDS. I was responsible for analyzing population based data set for women with various sexually transmitted infections. I got the opportunity to present my research findings in All India Dermatologist Conference amongst eminent doctors and graduate students of the country.
- Also worked on Leprosy Research & Control project sponsored by World Health Organization, India. I was responsible for reviewing relevant literature, and also assisted in primary collection of data, and analysis of the data.

Here I acquired knowledge and experience while working in following departments.
Dept. Of Medicine: 2 months
I was responsible for prescribing medications to patients in the outpatient department. The most frequent cases were those of GI upsets and respiratory tract infections like common cold, bronchitis, laryngitis etc.
I also took care of admitted patients. These were patients suffering mostly from chronic bronchitis, emphysema, congestive heart failure.
Dept. Of Surgery: 2 months
I assisted my professor in various surgeries as for example appendicitis, hernia, gall stones and also assisted in outpatient department where patients usually came for minor or major cuts, burns, accidents, fracture etc.
Dept Of Obstetrics & Gynecology: 2 months
I gained the experience of caesarian section, tube ligation and vaginal delivery.
I assisted in prescribing medications in the outpatient department for various vaginal discharge and infections
Preventive and Social Medicine: 6 months
During these six months of training in preventive medicine as an intern, I worked in 4 different units:
a. Immunization Unit - I helped in immunizing kids and infants
b. Family Planning- I counseled women and men to use condoms, copper t or oral contraceptives
c. Tuberculosis Unit- I examined the admitted patients and followed up with their medications
d. Skin & V.D Unit- I diagnosed and prescribed medications to the patients in the outpatient department.
During my Internship Period:
I was also a member of Rotary International Patna (India), working on Global Polio Eradication Project. We were to educate the mass about the importance of polio and administered oral polio drops to children up till 5 yrs (2 times a year) in addition to regular vaccination schedule. I co-organized a seminar on ‘Safe Sex’. The main motive of this was to educate school going children on HIV (AIDS) and use of condoms. I designed and implemented education fairs for the people of rural area of Bihar (India) and supported various activities for a community health education center for a local hospital. My main role and objective was to educate the mass about the importance of immunization and its affectivity in providing protection against deadly diseases like Tuberculosis, Diphtheria, Pertusis, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B and many more which otherwise could be life threatening and encouraged pregnant mothers to go for routine check ups, eat healthy and avoid smoking
ACADEMIC EXPERIENCES
I was the principal investigator in the research conducted under the guidance of
Dr Larissa Brunner Huber (Assistant Professor of Epidemiology) in the Department of
Public Health Sciences at University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). The research was on the prevalence of HIV testing during preconception and prenatal care among Non- Hispanic Black and White women. My thesis was selected to be presented at Annual Graduate Research Fair of University of North Carolina at Charlotte and was also selected by American College Of Epidemiology to be presented at Florida in September 2007.
