MAJOR PROJECTS HANDLED:

1. Alcatel ISS - FTTU GPON (L2/L3 Switch) Features

The Alcatel 7342 ISAM FTTU uses Full Service Access Network standards complaint gigabit Passive Optical network (GPON) technology to multiplex any mix of voice, video or data in central office onto a single fiber that is terminated at the subscriber's premise. It is designed for wire-speed performance with cost-effective Ethernet switching and enhanced Layer 2/Layer 3 functions. Alcatel’s FTTU-GPON is a DSLAM that focuses on real-time applications including video broadcasts and managing Ethernet Traffic with a Redundant NT/Lanx. The project involves developing the protocol stack for the data traffic controlling part of the Switch called LANX in a VxWorks Environment. The project focuses on the redundant architecture with an Active and Standby LANX. The services like HSI traffic and VoIP are un-affected if the Active Lanx goes down.

The scope of the work at Aricent includes providing redundancy support of the existing ISAM R2.3 baseline of ISS software. Redundancy supported ISAM called as ISAM 4.0 baseline. It involves development and testing of all data communication L2 protocols like LACP, IGS, RSTP etc. and the L3 protocols like RIP to be integrated in future.

• Root cause analysis of Fault report for Release R4.7.04

• Involved in Sanity and regression testing for R4.7.04 customer delivery.

3. Alcatel ISS R4.7 Uplink Redundancy Feature

Implementation of Uplink Redundancy Feature to support 1:1 Link protection, i.e

A network can offer protection by providing alternative resources to be used when the working resource fails. There is specific terminology for the number and arrangement of such resources. The 1+1 link protection type provides protection for 1 working resources using 1 protection resources. The protection resources are only used at the time of the failure.

For doing this network protection mechanism we are using the Link Protection based on Link Aggregation. For an Ethernet transport, Link Aggregation allows one or more Ethernet links connecting the same two nodes to be aggregated into a Link Aggregation Group (LAG). A LAG logically behaves as a single link. The frames that each of the two nodes transmits through the LAG are distributed between the parallel links according to the decision of that node.

One of the features of a LAG setup is protection against failures of each of the links comprising the LAG. When one of these links fails, the nodes at the two sides of the LAG simply change their LAG distribution function to spread the traffic between the remaining links. When a link recovers, the LAG distribution function changes again to include it.

Duration : 5 months

• Manual Testing (SIT and regression) of GPON Features in R4.6 release.

5. Alcatel ISS R4.6 – User to User communication

Earlier in FTTU product, when a voice call is made between two users whose connections terminated on the same Optical Line Terminal (OLT), the voice packets are forwarded up to the network by the OLT and then returned to the OLT for forwarding to the destination. This feature allows the packets to be forwarded within the OLT without the need to send the packets to the network. With this feature implementation, all the voice packets shall be switched to destination using Layer 2 forwarding data base only i.e. Layer 3 routing was made obsolete.

Environment : C, Data structures and VxWorks.
