The positions I held at Smiles by Design were dental hygienist and office manager. My duties included seeing new patients and evaluating them for needed treatment as well as finding out what they would like. I performed a thorough exam on all the new patients which included full mouth x-rays, panoramic x-ray, probing depths and periodontal assessment, charted all existing restorations, and advised the doctor of any conditions I observed. I would also give the patient the information as I proceeded with my exam and let them know what to expect when the doctor did his exam. I reviewed treatment plans and financial arrangements as well as insurance information with my patients. I scheduled patients for follow up care, whether it is for treatment or for hygiene appointments.
I typically see 8-12 patients per day. If there are children on the schedule then that number would be higher. I have recommended and placed Arestin. I will typically administer all analgesia and local anesthetic for my patients as well as the doctor’s.
As office manager I have hired and trained 8 new team members in the past two years. I was in charge of all team meetings and agendas. I ran monthly reports as well as closed out each month. I have posted payments both private and insurance. I turned a failing recare system around to the point that the office now requires two hygienists.
I have extensive knowledge on Dentrix but I am easily adaptable to any dental software. I have also attended dozens of growth conferences which would include patient care, communication, and team building skills.

I joined this practice right out of Hygiene School. I worked as a dental assistant for three months while my license was being issued. When I started, there was one office, two dentists, and two hygienists. By the time I left we had three very successful offices, 7 hygienists, 7 doctors and 18 dental assistants. I managed the hygienists and held monthly production meetings. We dispensed Omni products and had a very successful periodontal program. I was the first to be trained on a Diode Laser and later trained the other hygienists.
During my ten years with the practice we opened up two more offices, added three new owners, hired 5 hygienists, changed operating systems, went paperless, and digital, and implemented products for sale. I enjoyed working closely with all my patients as well as being part of the management team. I have always had an owner’s mentality which allowed me to help increase the success of the business.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES
Instructor/Administrator for New Dental Assisting School.
I opened the first dental assisting training program in Pocatello, outside of the university. I taught several semesters as well as trained new instructors. I became the administrator once new instructors were trained. I was in charge of speaking at events about the school. Building relationships with rehabilitation offices. Recruiting new students. Arranging payment for the course. Scheduling externship hours for the students. Holding the graduation ceremony.
Volunteer
I have volunteered at many children’s events, providing health education to the children and parents as well as providing free dental care. I have taken toothprints and created identity kits for parents.
Marketing
I assisted in creating a commercial for the practice. Created brochures, ads, postcards, and signs for advertising. Became known in the community to further advance the practice. Organized and presented at all health fairs in the community to promote the practice.
