Object Oriented Real-time & Embedded Software Development

Complete life cycle team leadership.

Professional Experience:

Software Team Lead - LiveTV, Melbourne FL - 07/07 - present

I was recruited by former colleagues from Telephonics to lead the software development effort for LiveTV’s new LTV3 satellite TV based inflight entertainment system.

I’ve been responsible for the software architecture and development of all components of this complex distributed control system for all of its nearly complete life cycle, from system concept development through its current state of revenue-generating deployment on over 200 United/Continental Airlines’ Boeing 737 and Azul Embraer E-190 aircraft.

I've managed the work of a team of up to 12 SW engineers, while writing system and software requirements (using DOORS), designing the system architecture, managing cost & schedule along with coding a significant part of the software in C++.

My team is creating software for multiple networked embedded processors and operating systems, including uCOS on Broadcom 7312 Satellite receivers (MIPS), Debian Linux (Intel), UClinux (Cold Fire) and HCO8 Freescale microcontroller. Our code is written in a variety of languages, including ANSI C, Perl and C#/.NET/Mono, but with the majority coded in C++ with UML based Model Driven Development (MDD) (IBM Rhapsody).

Software Engineer - Harris GCSD, Palm Bay FL - 02/04 - 07/07

At Harris, I was an embedded software team lead for the WIN-T High band Networking Waveform (HNW) Control Plane CSCI. My team of 8 converted the IRAD developed Mobile Ad Hoc Networking (MANET) radio control SW into a JTRS compliant waveform, by: adding a CORBA based Software Communications Architecture (SCA) command and control layer and porting the algorithm from a tightly coupled environment (embedded C, PowerPC, RTLinux) to a platform independent waveform using Rhapsody MDD.

I was the primary software interface to our partners, traveling frequently to BAE in New Jersey to support requirements definition and reviews. I also taught formal classes in C++ and Rhapsody MDD.

Staff Software Engineer, Telephonics Wireless Corp, Melbourne FL - 01/01- 01/04

I was the first and key member hired by Telephonics to develop software for the nanoCell GSM wireless transceiver system I developed system and software level requirements using DOORS, designed real time embedded software in UML (Rhapsody) and C++ for VxWorks running on PowerPC processors for the complete product lifecycle, from system concept development to successful commercial deployment.

Member of Technical Staff, Tantivy Communications, Melbourne FL. 5/00 - 01/01

As member of both the network management and embedded software teams, I developed software that bridged the gap, including: development and maintenance of management software for iCDMA wireless Internet base stations written in C, targeted for the Nucleus OS on Power PC processors and design of a mobile node simulator to test the implementation of the Mobile IP standard by vender-supplied routers, written in C++ for the Solaris OS.

Lead Software Engineer, GE-Harris Railway Electronics, Melbourne FL 8/97 - 5/00

I joined GE-Harris to lead a software design group for the Advanced Computer Aided Dispatching (ACAD) systems for major US freight railroads. My team performed analysis, design, code and test of core object models for track topology and routing, territory division, train tracking, train delay and weather processing. I managed offshore software development pilot programs in India. UML/Rational Rose, C++, Solaris.

I also lead an embedded software development team for the Integrated Control System (ICON) data acquisition and control subsystem. We conceived and implemented a unique system architecture wherein XML representations of locomotive systems processing were translated into executable control algorithms in real time. UML/Rational Rose, C++, QNX, embedded Intel processors.

Member of Technical Staff - Airnet Communications, Melbourne, FL. 7/96 - 8/97

I coded, tested and integrated object oriented embedded real time call processing software for PCS1900 GSM wireless telephony systems. C++, ObjecTime, VxWorks, UNIX, Sparc and PowerPC

Senior Software Engineer Broadband Technologies, Research Triangle Park, NC. 4/95 - 7/96

I developed and tested object oriented embedded software architecture components for BBT's FLX-2500 "fiber to the curb" switched digital video network system. C++, PSOS, OOA, Bridgepoint Analyst, Shlaer-Mellor methodology.

Senior Project Engineer - TRW Space and Defense, Warner Robins, GA. 11/92 - 3/95

I created embedded software for real time data collection systems used in testing numerous Electronic warfare systems. VME device drivers for SCSI drives and RF and digital instruments in C, C++, Ada and FORTRAN, targeting VMS, MS-DOS, and OS9. Design leadership for the Georgia Net public information system, which put state legislative records on-line for public access. (C, UNIX)
