MSc Dissertation Lancaster University (June 2013-Sept 2013) This report examined the two commonly used flexible work schedules, telecommuting and flextime to identify if their adoption facilitates recruitment and retention strategies of firms. Both quantitative (regression analysis) and qualitative methods (online survey) were used to guide this study. Data from the 2005 European Working Conditions Survey was first utilized to examine the influence of telecommuting and flextime on job satisfaction. In the second stage, an online survey of 227 employees was conducted across several countries to measure employee’s attitudes towards the use of these two arrangements. The benefits, disadvantages, and implications of the two practices were explored.
