Operating the Crane:
• Safely and efficiently operate various types of cranes, including tower, lattice boom, offshore cranes, mobile, and overhead cranes, to lift, move, and position loads such as materials, machinery, and equipment depending on the site requirements.
• Operate cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials, equipment, and pipes at oil rigs, drilling sites, refineries, or offshore platforms.
Load Management and Rigging:
• Select and inspect appropriate rigging and lifting load gear and devices, ensuring it meets safety standards.
• Calculate load weights, determine crane capacity, and ensure loads are balanced, secure, and within the crane's safe working limits.
• Balance and secure loads properly to prevent shifting or falling. Safety Compliance:
• Adhere to strict safety protocols, including industry-specific safety standards (OSHA).
• Conduct pre-operation inspections, regular maintenance, and safety checks on cranes to ensure they are in safe working order.
• Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that all safety procedures are followed by all personnel involved in the lifting operation.
Coordination with Site Personnel:
• Communicate and coordinate with site supervisors, signal persons, riggers, and other construction workers to ensure smooth and safe lifting operations.
• Respond and communicate to hand signals, radio instructions, or visual cues from signal persons or site supervisors.
Environmental and Site Considerations:
• Monitor and respond to environmental/weather conditions, such as high winds, tide levels sea states (for offshore operations), or other factors that could affect crane operation, especially in an open and exposed port areas.
• Position the crane securely, taking into account the movement of ship and dock conditions, other factors like ground stability, load path, and proximity to other equipment or hazards. Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate logs and records of crane operations, including load details, cargo handled, lift times, and equipment usage.
• Document any incidents, near-misses, or equipment malfunctions and report them to the site supervisor and or port authority or safety officer.
Emergency Preparedness:
• Prepared to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, such as equipment failures, accidents, or adverse weather conditions and ensure safety of personnel on site.
• Participate in emergency drills and training specific to oil and gas operations, especially in hazardous environments.
Equipment Maintenance and Care:
• Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs such as lubrication, tightening of bolts, and other preventative measures, to keep the crane in optimal working condition.
• Report and log any maintenance needs or defects to ensure timely repairs and avoid operational downtime. 2020 – 2021 Lagos, Nigeria
