A division of AKIMA, providing maintenance services to the Federal government at the 200 acre NIOSH facility south of Pittsburgh. Technical Services Manager: Responsible for coordinating all outside contractor activities from obtaining bids for work to coordinating on site activities while performing the work. Completely revised the Preventive Maintenance system to match the actual equipment at the site. Assistant to the Contract Administrator.

2016-2018

Bay Valley Foods, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

A division of the $1.8 billion manufacturer of private-label food products that produces soup and infant feeding products and had over 500 employees in a 50 acre facility.

2012 to 2015

Utilities Area Manager: Responsible for managing $6 million department budget and $1 million annual capital improvement budget and directing subcontractors and 25 plant maintenance employee activities for 4 coal/gas fired boilers, a 7 MW steam turbine, steam supply system, water supply system, HVAC system and all non-food related equipment.

● Installed weir to measure wastewater to Ohio River. Result: Produced annual cost reduction of over $1,000,000 to sewage bill.

● Upgraded and maintained the INFI90 power plant control system using plant personnel. Result: Saved $800,000 in cost of OEM upgrade.

● Installed Water Reservoir Level Control valve and control system. Result: Eliminated concern of manual control valve overflowing reservoir or allowing it to go empty.

● Assigned to restore 50 Dok Loks that had been left in disrepair for 15 years. Result: Replaced or repaired to working order on time, under budget, and meeting loading dock safety compliance. NRG, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Plant Engineer-Brunot Island Plant: Responsible to Operations Manager for managing all contracted and plant employee maintenance activities for a 250 MW Natural Gas Fired Combined Cycle Plant consisting of 3 General Electric Frame 7 Combustion Turbines and a General Electric Steam Turbine; and 75 MW of generation from 3 General Electric Frame 5 simple-cycle Combustion Turbines. Responsible for maintaining and upgrading as necessary the combined cycle plant DeltaV control system and the combustion turbine GE Fanuc control system.

● Recognized by management for building relationships with hourly work force and performed duties as: Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Engineer, Scheduler/Planner, Outage Coordinator, Maintenance Superintendent, Preventive and Condition Based Maintenance Coordinator, SAP Coordinator, Storeroom Coordinator; eliminating requirement to add additional employees.

● Successfully completed capacity test every year after the plant had been idle for 9 months.

Result: Maintained capacity payments at budgeted amount.

● Created Preventive Maintenance plans in SAP designed for plant operational status.

Result: Eliminated need to hire a contractor to create and enter the PMs.

2002 to 2012

Conoco Incorporated, Moundsville, West Virginia

A multinational energy company. The Moundsville Plant converted the coke from the oil refineries to carbon by utilizing 2-150 foot long rotary kilns that was sold in various markets.

Maintenance Engineer: Responsible to the Maintenance Manager to perform duties as Outage Coordinator, inspect equipment and recommend repairs, coordinate capital improvement projects, order material for projects, maintain ISO 9001 compliance, maintain inventory of spare parts.

1999 to 2002

● Upgraded the plant control system from a pneumatic system to OPTO22, a DCS based system. Result: Improved control of process increasing plant efficiency.

● Implemented upgrade to the SAP system. Result: Improved maintenance planning efficiency, provided cost tracking of individual jobs.

● Implemented use of a piece of equipment during outages to remove refractory that was scheduled for replacement. Result: Reduced outage time by 3 days.

● Recognized by the Maintenance Manager for planning and coordinating the best outage he had seen in his 35 years of service at the plant.

American Electric Power, Columbus, Ohio

An electric utility supplier with over 5 million customers in 11 states and more than 32,000 MW of generating capacity.

1986 to 1999

Production Superintendent - Cardinal Plant (Brilliant, Ohio): Responsible for the maintenance activities of contractors and 70 plant employees for a 600MW steam turbine/generator, a B&W supercritical boiler; a 40 conveyor belt coal supply system that consisted of 2 barge unloaders, 1 rail car unloader, and 1 truck unloader.

● Trained and motivated team for providing 1,800 megawatts of electric generation from 3 coal fired boilers and 3 600 MW steam turbine/generators.

Maintenance Engineer: Responsible to the Production Superintendent to trouble shoot problems, inspect equipment to recommend and coordinate repairs and replacement, perform plant shutdown inspections, create PMs, schedule training and set up spare parts in stock for new equipment.

● Supervised a 3-day emergency turbine-generator shutdown without spare parts to rebuild equipment. Modified existing parts to return equipment to service. Result: Returned unit to service as scheduled eliminating the need to purchase power from another utility.

● Recognized by Executive Team as the best choice for the Production Superintendent’s position when restructuring the plant hierarchy to prepare for utility deregulation.

Performance Engineer - Muskingum River Plant (Beverly, Ohio): Responsible to the Performance Superintendent to conduct tests and equipment inspections on a 200 MW turbine/generator and subcritical boiler in order to obtain maximum efficiency. Based on the testing and inspections, made adjustments to equipment, recommended repair or replacement of equipment.

● Installed a chemical injection system in the condenser circulating water on 4 subcritical boilers to eliminate scale build up on heat transfer tubes. Result: Saved $3,000,000 annually in fuel costs. Education
