Officer Management. Control, coordination, direction, handling, administration of fellow Correctional Officers when assigned to work intake/impatient desk.

Training. Provides on-the-job training to Correctional Officers; instructs; Training of employees in booking and computer related concerns.

Inmate Control. While assigned to posts and/or shifts requiring an increased knowledge of the correctional system and greater incidence of problem solving, situation assessment and decision making, the employee: controls, directs, and monitors activity and movement of inmates within a specified area to ensure security and safety (e.g., medical appointments, facility to facility transport, outside transports on Jackson campus); stays alert to possible assaults, contraband, injuries, illness, and escape attempts; intervenes in and controls acts of negative behavior and violence by exercising good judgment and taking and/or recommending corrective measures; in circumstances of a serious disturbance, may be required to use physical force such as restraints, firearms, chemical agents, or other devices.

Security and Searches. While assigned to posts and/or shifts requiring an increased knowledge of the correctional system and greater incidence of problem solving, situation assessment, and decision making, the employee: conducts visual surveillance of security perimeter and monitors vehicle and foot traffic entering and leaving facility; searches and inspects vehicles entering and leaving grounds; visually identifies and admits authorized inmates, volunteers, staff, and visitors into the institution; operates hand scanner to inspect persons and their authorized articles before admission to the institution; conducts surveillance of persons visiting inmates to detect inappropriate or illegal behavior; performs random and specific frisk and strip searches and security inspections of inmates; searches holding cells, buildings, areas, supplies, and inmates' personal property for weapons and contraband; monitors electronic surveillance equipment; inspects keys and locks for damage; checks windows, bars, doors, gates, fences, walls, ceilings, etc., for damage or possible breaches of security.

Communications. Completes inmate movement sheets to show current location of inmates; writes memos, incident or disciplinary reports detailing incorrect inmate behavior; maintains and updates listing of inmates, visitors and staff; takes periodic count of inmates in assigned area reconciling or reporting discrepancies; operates communications equipment.

Receives and processes. Newly arrested individuals through the initial phases of jail operations including booking, explaining procedures, personal search and property surrender, computer background investigation, photo and fingerprints and affidavit verification.

Maintains order and constant vigilance over inmates during all phases of jail operations, emergency situations, courtroom proceedings, medical treatment at a hospital facility, and transportation.

Patrols assigned areas of the facility and reports unusual circumstances and incidents; screens visitors, applies leg and arm constraints to inmates, issues passes, makes daily head counts, and operates electrical and manual gate controls to maintain security.

Maintains records on inmates by keeping an accurate jail card, recording major developments during the course of the inmate's trial, and incarceration, to document the duration of an inmate's time in the correctional facility.

Supervises inmates work details and participates in various work detail activities such as cleaning, painting, insect spraying, serving meals and other meal-serving and maintenance responsibilities to ensure the cleanliness of the correctional facility and proper food service for inmates.

Releases inmates0 from the correctional facility by interpreting the inmate jail card, providing information on trial dates and legal procedures, and issuing personal property.

Transports inmates committed to a medical facility or to another correctional institution via a motor vehicle; carries firearms and adheres to proper security practices and procedures to insure the security of transported individuals and the safety of the public.

Involved in the logging in and maintenance of project contracts as they evolve towards completion. Responsible for formulation and input of payroll. 2000-2004 – provided, Detention Facilities Manager administrative support services during construction of North Broward Women’s Detention Facility [NBWD] and punch-list close-out process, and during Conte Facility litigation. Creation of all purchasing done through department for NBWD while coordinating with BSO liaison(s). Handling, copying, filing drawings, sketches, and blueprints. Heavy typing of punch-list, maintaining PM files, and accurate log of all documents received, copied, or distributed by PM.

In November 2000 was nominated to the Office Paper Waste Reduction Committee by my office Director and then asked to act in same capacity for Public Works Administration. Initiated and conducted the Weekly Green Tip routing. Initiated the Waste Reduction Sub-Committee for the redesign of the Program web-site. Helped put together the Waste Reduction Fair held September 9 – 13, 2002.

Initiated the Printer Cartridge Recycling Program for Broward County in February of 2002; On July 18, 2002 as charged by Denise Cote, Assistant to the County Administrator, to take the Printer Cartridge program County-wide. This committee is currently engaged in a pilot program that will determine the viability of such a county-wide effort.

In May 2004, I was requested by the Assistant to the Public Works Division Director to help with Minority/Women’s Business Enterprise [M/WBE] participation. I am to develop and maintain spreadsheets designed to track M/WBE participation on County projects for Public Works; verify sub-consultant/subcontractors contracted to do business on County projects; and perform statistical analysis of data produced from an internal database application designed to monitor and track M/WBE participation on capital construction projects.

The LEAD XVI class was unique in that we had a facilitator for only four of the nine months, neccessiting student control of our educational experience. Managed, directed, and controlled twelve other participants through the project, the Kick-Off Campaign, and report process.

The conception, development, creation, and direction of a full print, and video media campaign for our program. Full spread ads for busses inside and outside. Conceived, wrote, and directed video taped commercial in which Mayor Diana Wasserman-Rubin starred.
