The thing I love most about this work is that I get to learn new things every day and interact with different cultures of my audience.

Customer care representative and sales assistant at Airtel shop Greenspan mall

I have worked as customer care and sales assistant at Airtel shop Greenspan mall for a period of one year from October 2019 to October 2020 as an employee of Fonati Limited. During my time at Greenspan mall, my colleague and I developed a feedback system, where we could call our customers and learn about how our products are working for them and in these calls, we could also inform them about our new products. We also established a reward system for our loyal customers, this involved also ensuring an easy and efficient record-keeping system. Thanks to Fonati Limited my employer at the time we received new receipting devices from XOKO that assisted us in monitoring consumer trends.

With these new changes we had introduced as a team, Greenspan Airtel shop became the leading in mobile device sales out of all the Airtel shops nationally until October where the shop was closed and relocated to a different location. My experience in computer and mobile device troubleshooting greatly improved as I got to assist and solve client queries. Through the opportunity of working at Airtel customer care shop, I got a chance to learn about data entry and how to analyze the raw data that help make managerial decisions by using tools like SPSS and MS Excel. I was a beneficiary of zoom meetings, training and conference calls organized by Airtel Kenya where I got a chance to interact with multiple people offering technological solutions to in the telecommunication industry, this moulded how I see problems into opportunities for offering sustainable solutions.

Sales assistant and cashier at Sweet world supermarket

I worked at Sweetworld Supermarket Ruai for six months, where I was in charge of maintaining stock volume on display and ensuring an eye-catching visual display. In the evening I prepared a daily sales report, which I would e-mail to the manager for analysis and record keeping. The supermarket was near two other supermarkets, Quickmart Ruai and Tuskys Jirani which I would visit and prepare Competitor analysis reports. Through these reports, we knew what worked for the competition and this went a long way in guiding our competitive approach in promotions and reward schemes. I realized that at the supermarket we used to experience damages from rodent attacks, which would contribute to major losses. I leveraged knowledge from campus on how to control pest and developed an integrated system that worked to scare, capture and repel the rodents. In less than a month, with the help from my partners, the rodent problem was under control and we also experienced a reduction in damage losses. This also boosted the morale of my colleagues and the trust of my supervisor as more responsibilities were assigned to me.

Internship at KALRO Kandara

During my third-year attachment in university, I got an opportunity to work at KALRO Thika where my responsibilities included developing tutorial materials for educating farmers on the most effective ways to avoid postharvest waste of food products using value addition methods like brining, sun-drying, pickling and jam making. The value-added products would fetch higher returns thereby boosting the farmers’ incomes and solving a global problem, food wastage. KALRO Kandara was also a research organization, where I learnt about different data collection methods for analysis in studies and experiments.
