• Programmed embedded systems for real world problems, programming concepts in C and Python such as Decision control Statements, Arrays, Strings, Pointers. Memory Management and Memory Handling concepts were discussed.

• With these concepts covered, discussion on microcontrollers had begun with most concepts being tested out on microcontroller boards such as the Arduino Unos and the Node MCU, with additional processing based embedded system design scenarios simulated and tested on the Raspberry Pi.

• Peripherals and additional components such as LCD displays, power transistors such as the IGBT, different motors, along with implementations of communication protocols such as I2C and MQTT were tested.

PROJECTS

Tomato Disease Detection using Image Processing

• Developed an automated system for segregation of diseased tomatoes and healthy tomatoes. Built a deep neural network with high accuracy and no over-fitting.

• The dataset which consists of 8,374 images were divided into: training set, testing set and validation set. 90% of the total data set was taken as training set and the remaining 10% as testing set. Out of the testing dataset, 90% was considered as the validation dataset.

• The model was given 4000 steps-per-epoch and number of epochs was 10. The first epoch had an accuracy of 0.9969 and the final epoch had an accuracy of 0.9998. MQTT based Power Delivery IoT controllers

• Remotely controlled the luminosity of incandescent light bulbs using phase cutting method and MQTT protocol. The control of the luminosity ranged from 0 to 255.

• In order to achieve phase cutting, a TRIAC was used as a high speed power switch. Upon the user’s requirement the central node was updated with an 8 bit integer which is then mapped with the delay angle ranging from zero to 180 degree. As per the delay, a timer is set, to enable the TRIAC after current zero crossing.

• The communication protocol between the mobile application and the central node is MQTT where the mobile application was the publisher and the central node was the subscriber. SKILLS
