*20 plus years’ experience in LAN/WAN routing, switching and wireless. EIGRP, BGP, OSPF and RIP routing protocols. 8540/5508/4408 WLC (Wireless LAN controller), 3X02i Wireless Access points (WAPs). PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Northwestern Medicine January 2015 - Present

Winfield IL – Senior Network Engineer

*Install, configure, troubleshoot and support a regional routed, switched, wireless network.

*BGP and EIGRP routing protocols. 1K ASR, 3925, 3825 routers. 8540, 5508, 4408 WLC, 3X02i WAP. Data Center Nexus 7K, 5K, 2K. 6807, 4500, 3850, 3750 multilayer switches.

*Configure, troubleshoot, support a Cisco 8540/5508/4408 with 3702i and 3602i WAP (Wireless Access Points).

*Work with the team to bring up newly acquired hospital systems, new doctor offices, Medical Office buildings. Assign and document the data and voice IP blocks, VLANs. Rack, fiber, cable and configure the switches, routing, WAN connections of the new sites into the data centers, as well as the configurations into the data center 6807 routers. Routing protocols were EIGRP then moved to BGP as the scale of the network grew.

*Given the lead to integrate a newly acquired hospital system into the Northwestern Medicine network. Multiple challenges with overlapping IP networks were successfully resolved.

*Support the storage and server teams by configuring the 9K/7K/5K/2K Nexus data center gear per the teams requested requirements. Assign needed IP addresses, create VLANs, VPC to create needed host connectivity.

*Converted a multi-national Frame relay network to a MPLS network. Work with a group of engineers to design a solution, build it in a lab, configure the routers on a mass basis, ship them out and work with local management and technical teams to do the conversion.

*Replace a 6509 switched network with a 7K/5K/2k Nexus switched network after VM servers overran the buffers of the older C6K LAN network.

*Work with a team of engineers to replace a non-standard network in 25 offices throughout Europe and Asia with a MPLS based network, open internally and firewall from outside.

*Layout, initial and final configuration, troubleshoot, provide ongoing support of an 802.11 Wireless network across US, Europe and Asia, configure and use Cisco Prime in ongoing support.

*When a new company was purchased, redesign and rebuild their existing network infrastructure into a network that matched ADP/CDK network standards.

*Support, troubleshoot, and maintain the LAN /WAN network across approximately 40 North American sites and 30 European and Asian sites.

*Take office moves and new expansion offices from start to move-in, size the WAN circuits, order the lines from the common carriers, order, build, configure the router, switches, wireless network, travel out to the remote site and bring it all up, or work remotely with the local management and technical team.

*Provide the architecture, design, engineering, IP address layout, choose the routing protocol, implement and provide 2nd and 3rd level support for a corporate network consisting of multiple Frame-Relay T-1 links, OSPF routing protocol with BGP links between autonomous areas. The total network was 160 sites with 5000 users and approximately 200 servers.

*Provide the architecture, design, engineering, implementation, documentation and 2nd / 3rd level support for secure corporate Internet site holding all the corporate Internet web, mail and database servers including dual DS-3 links to the Internet for inbound connectivity and outbound enterprise connectivity. It paid for itself in one year and increased security by consolidating multiple Internet feeds across the company to a single point.

*Troubleshoot and evaluate problem with slow response time between engineering sites transferring large CAD files. Architect, design, engineer, configure, document and provide 2nd / 3rd level support for a hardware and software solution using triple-des encrypted VPN routers in a peer-to-peer VPN network.

*Research, evaluate, order dual MAX 4048 and 4 ISDN PRI lines, configure the box and bring up the hardware-software and nationwide roll out, saving the company 3000$ a month in long distance bills.

*Configure and bring up a nationwide VPN solution for work at home users. Provided significant savings over frame relay links or analog dial.

*Research and evaluate new technologies as possible solutions to save the company money or resolve a network problem.

*Research external DNS solutions, design, layout, configure, support redundant Sun RAQ 550 boxes to do external DNS.

*Design and layout the IP blocks and IP summarization for local and remote sites, experienced with OSPF, BGP, and RIP routing protocols, and teach the network engineers how to configure, troubleshoot and support the enterprise network.
