MATERIAL ENGINEER

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Site Supervision of offshore and onshore geotechnical projects.

● Logging and description of soil and rock samples according to ASTM and BS standards.

● Preparing laboratory test schedule by selecting samples of rock, soil and water for specific mechanical and chemical testing.

● Supervision of field tests and reporting final results of Pressuremeter test, Packer test, Permeability test, Soil Electrical Resistivity, Pile Integrity, SPT and CPT processing.

● An Installation of different types of Piezometers for the monitoring of ground water fluctuations.

● Foundation level assessment, recommendations and reporting including bearing capacity calculations.

● Recommendation for Soil replacement, Soil improvement techniques like Stone Column, Grouting, Dynamic Compaction etc and dewatering techniques.

● Supervision of laboratory tests for soil and reporting final results of Sieve Analysis, Atterberg limits, UCS, Point Load Index, Consolidation test, Proctor, CBR, Direct shear, Specific gravity, Bulk and Dry density and Moisture Content. Aggregate tests like Sieve Analysis, Specific Gravity, Soundness, Loss of abrasion, Aggregate Crushing Value, Impact Value, Clay Lumps, Friable partials, Flakiness and Elongation Index and chemical tests like Sulphate and Chlorides test. Concrete testing such as Compressive strength of cubes and Cores, Durability test of concrete like, RCP test, ISAT, Water impermeability test and Absorption test.Kerbstone and Paving blocks testing in laboratory as per Project specifications and relevant BS, ASTM and AASHTO standards.

● Conducting Quality control tests on soil, aggregate, sand, cement, etc., for finding their suitability to be used in Embankment, Sub grade, Sub-Base, WMM, and asphalt mixes, etc., as per ASTM, BS, AASHTO and Contract Specification.

● To analyse the mix designs for various mixes of cement concrete, and asphaltic concrete formulated by the contractor, and to advise the RE as to their acceptability. Asphalt:

Mix design of asphaltic base, binder & wearing course, Draw all the curves of GMB, VMA, VIM, VFB, Stability & Flow. Testing of Stock Pile aggregate and hot bin aggregate including sand filler. Soil:

Selection of borrow pits and test according to the soil classification and all the related tests carried out as per AASHTO, ASTM & BS standards.

Aggregate:

Testing of aggregate Grading, Specific Gravity and Water Absorption, Flakiness and Elongation limit, Los Angeles Abrasion, Sand Equivalent & Soundness and all related tests as per AASHTO & BS standards. Normal Concrete:

For Normal Concrete – Concrete Mix Design, Cube Making, Determination of Slump and Temp., Compressive Strength of Concrete Cubes.

Durable Concrete:

Durable Concrete Mix Design, Testing of Durable Concrete Cubes for Compressive Strength, Water permeability, RCP, ISAT & Water Absorption.
