Duties Summary
Drive and operate heavy equipment including dump trucks, low boy, loaders, motor graders, excavators, bulldozers, crack sealing machines, ditching machines, force feed loaders and asphalt distributors. Load and unload equipment for transport on Low boy. Flag traffic, repair of highways, including patching, paving, chip sealing and replacing pipelines. Perform shoulder work and ditch maintenance. Experience in putting pipes together, hauling pipes to job site and inspecting pipes. Use shovels, rakes, brooms, hammers and chain saws to preform manual labor. Assist in calculation of quantities needed for construction and paving operations. Emergency work including snow, ice and hurricane clean up. Preform standard road maintenance and construction procedures. Set up work zones and follow NCDOT workplace safety policies and procedures. Supervise and Train low boy drivers applying for commercial driver’s license. Plan and organize task and equipment to obtain daily work objectives. Supervise work crews on daily task and equipment operations. Hold and document morning tailgate safety meetings as well as crew's daily time and job reports.
