Product Owner – Infrastructure Enablement and Operations

Rocket Mortgage (Previously known as Quicken Loans) – Detroit, MI, August 2016 – August 2023

Data Science Platform:

Centralized platform designed for data science, machine learning, and a lead generation pipeline replacing an almost $1 billion dollar lead acquisition budget typically spent on external vendors.

Utilized SAFe Agile methodology to create and manage multi-Feature Epics for technical work planning and tracking.

Product Owner for team of senior developers and architects for the initial creation of a Data Lake environment utilizing Cloudera Data Platform (previously known as HortonWorks Data Platform) software. Deployed to AWS Cloud environment. This was the first major foray into Cloud technology for the company.

Product ownership of redesign and migration from the Cloudera platform to an all-AWS solution using Amazon data services such as S3, RDS, EMR, CloudFormation, and Terraform among others.

Project organization for implementation of complex services such as Kubernetes and Sagemaker.

Platform Infrastructure Enablement and Operations team:

Founding member of a new team created to handle all cloud and on-premises infrastructure requirements for the extended “Data Intelligence” division (17+ separate teams).

Provided support for all cloud and on-prem infrastructure requests, deployments, operations and maintenance.

Performed interviews and assisted in hiring decisions for the technical team members.

Team size of up to 28+ System and Database administrators.

Procured, Implemented, and utilized Jira Service Manager (JSM) as a service bureau type of work request and tracking system for System engineer and Database administrator activities.

Lead Product Owner overseeing two junior level Product owners and multiple Product Owner interns.

Led project team to ensure legal compliance with the GLBA (Graham Leech Baily Act) law governing handling of financial data by publicly traded companies. This was a high priority and high visibility initiative to mitigate potential exposure to multimillion-dollar liabilities.

SQL Server Data Warehouse Implementation:

Led project team to build and deploy a massive Microsoft SQL Server implementation utilized for enterprise-wide reporting of loan pipeline activity, marketing campaign effectiveness, and lead generation models and analytics.

Primary reporting database used by team leaders all the way up to the executive leadership.

Powerful hardware – multiple node, cross data center architecture utilizing both synchronous and asynchronous replication to ensure redundancy. 6TB of memory on each node and multi–Petabyte SAN storage.

Received team award for successful implementation of the project, also received nomination for Rocket Honor award (the highest award for team member achievement).

Senior Solutions Analyst

T. Rowe Price Investments – Baltimore, MD, November 2005 – June, 2016

Project Management:

Project manager for software development projects for the Eagle Investment System (firm-wide master Security Reference data system for T. Rowe Price).

Development team lead responsible for managing 5 in-office developers and 6 overseas developers.

Project Lead responsible for development of new or enhanced vendor data feeds, resulting in automated data flows to and from external data providers.

Created and managed technical development project plans.

Business Analysis:

Authored numerous design documents, implementation documents, requirements documents, functional specification documents and test plan documents.

Prepared proof of concept analysis utilizing new functionality resulting in the adoption of analytics data and custom benchmark blending.

Executed test plans and created detailed results analysis based on the test cases.

Performed analysis of benchmark, security reference, analytics, ratings, and positions data from various vendor sources, including Barclays Capital, Bloomberg, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch/Bank of America and Citibank.

Acted as Liaison from the security reference project team to all other business groups including accounting system and trading system groups.

Technical Solutions:

Project lead for development project to build interfaces for centralized Investment Data Warehouse housed on an Oracle Exadata appliance. This was a very large and high-profile project developing seventeen separate feeds under tight deadlines.

Key team member for Eagle Investments system upgrade, 8-month project, resulting in the software upgrade being migrated to production without incident.

Worked with team to develop an Analytics Data Warehouse for fixed income securities utilizing the Eagle PACE Investment System on an Oracle platform.

Designed and developed Perl scripts, Oracle stored procedures, and Sybase stored procedures to import, manipulate, and export investment data to and from Eagle, in-house performance reporting system, and accounting systems.

Incorporated various incoming data feeds including feeds from Barclays Capital, Bloomberg, JP Morgan, Citibank, CSFB, and Standard & Poor’s.

Developed outgoing data feeds to Charles River trading system, HiNet accounting system, and numerous other repositories and/or systems throughout the organization.

Database Programmer
