University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), Dayton, OH Research Engineer 2021– Present

• Using Aspen HYSYS, the Sabatier reaction process for renewable methane (RNG) production was designed, simulated, and optimized. The model predicts that CO2 conversions exceeding 95% can be achieved over extended operation periods. Simulation results indicate that CO2 conversions above 90% and 100% CH4 selectivity can be maintained over long durations.

• Developed and scaled up a bioreactor for genetically modified bacterial strains to boost biofuel production yield. Assessed various test rig designs, materials, and growth media, enhancing the production yield from 8 to 25 mg/L. Analytical techniques, including gas chromatography, spectroscopy, and qPCR, were utilized for assessment.

• Designed a Graphene Oxide (GO) filtration system to remove bio-contaminants from fuel, achieving successful field deployment at 10 to 20 GPM with 99.99% efficiency. Multiple test rig configurations, GO loading, operating conditions, residence time, and packing density were tested to evaluate their impact on the GO filter's efficacy.

• Utilized FTIR spectroscopy for real-time per/polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) thermal destruction, and designed a supercritical water oxidation unit to destroy PFAS chemicals. FTIR method development and chemical calibration were performed to capture the intermediate reaction mechanism of the PFAS thermal destruction. In addition, PFAS adsorption/desorption using IExR and GAC media to remove PFAS from aqueous solution was investigated.

• Performed fuel functional group approach to predict combustion Indicators such as DCN and lean Blowout (LBO) with the capability to formulate novel jet fuel surrogates using fuel’s chemical and physical properties. Research Associate 2016 – 2021

• Utilized a heated shock tube to study combustor lean blowout performance correlation with pyrolysis products from jet fuels. Developed a GC-FID method to detect, and quantify the pyrolysis products. CHEMKIN simulation was performed to validate the chemical kinetic models of the studied jet fuels.

• Designed and developed a combustion-driven shock tube to achieve hypersonic shock wave with a high Mach number (M>5) to study high-temperature nonequilibrium thermodynamic measurement of pure oxygen.

• Conducted dynamic flow simulations of algae reactor systems using PIPE-FLO and AFT Fathom. Process Integration Limited, Manchester, UK 2011 – 2012

• Performed process integration, optimization, and cost evaluation studies with Aspen HYSYS software.

• Conducted CO2 Capture modeling to study the performance of CO2 adsorption on different structures of zeolites. EDUCATION
