Professional Summary
I have been a speech-language pathologist for 27 years in long-term acute care hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, acute care hospitals, private practice, and schools. I have taught at the junior college level and supervised many graduate students during their externships. I am beginning my third year as a doctoral student in language literacy and culture in the College of Education and Human Sciences. I am interested in furthering research in speech-language pathology in both educational and professional areas. I am also interested in an academic position where I can provide evaluations and treatment as a speech-language pathologist.

FDA Commendation 2007- Hispanic Literacy Education combined with WIC program for Hispanic-speaking children birth to five and their mothers.
Grants
Hispanic Literacy Program: Wrote and received grants from 1999-2007 for a program I created called the Hispanic Literacy Program to purchase books for Hispanic children in the WIC program four times a year. Kaleidoscope Foundation, Dollar General, Reach Out and Read, and Scholastics provided funding and books. Funding amounts were $2,500 a year for nine years. Book donations from other programs were 100-200 per year. The program served 750 families a year. Each family received four books a year, four lessons on the importance of reading at home with children in their native language, four language activities, and reading demonstrations to promote thematic learning of language associated with books.

Cobe Cardiovascular 1993-1995 Performed pressure tests using bovine and human blood to gather data on the sheer rate of platelets in extracorporeal circulation medical equipment.

International Experience
Speech-Language Pathologist 2009-2011-Volunteered to treat adults seeking accent modification from Belgium (an international lawyer) and Nigeria (a medical doctor). Treated articulation and voice deficits with children diagnosed with apraxia, puberphonia, and autism. Tutored students in spelling at St. John's International School.
Doctoral Student- I studied abroad in Belize at Ocean Academy-Caye Caulker High School, exploring the interconnectedness of the high school and community through naturalistic inquiry.
