·Project engineer on unit 1 high pressure, intermediate pressure turbine and generator major overhaul. The rotors were removed and sent away for refurbishment and balancing. The stationary blades of the turbines were overhauled on site. The budget costs for this outage are in the region of R 6 M

·As project engineer, he successfully completed a project on the cooling water valves on turbines 4,5 & 6 and cooling towers 4,5 and 6 to value of +/- R 1 M, the duration of this outage due to efficient planning was reduced from 8 days to 5 days.

·Completed studying the management development programme (MDP) through Unisa, he has completed the eight modules which are as follows: human resource management; marketing 1; integrated management systems and managerial accounting, marketing 2; employment & equity relations; economics and financial accounting.

·Obtained my GCC and was appointed subordinate responsible person on all turbine auxiliaries & 22 kV breaker compressors and air receivers, frf, cw aux. These plants were directly his responsibility and he handled all maintenance issues. In this period he was also appointed as responsible person for all running units on Tutuka power station in the turbine section. On various occasions he also acted as turbine maintenance manager during his absence deciding on major production issues pertaining to the turbo-generator sets.

·Appointed as turbine responsible person for units 3 and 4 handling all problems on the two turbo-generator sets. In this period he was also given the opportunity to be project engineer on his first major outage which included various steam admission valves as well as two LP rotors. Planning, placing contracts and approving the product quality plan for these outages were his responsibility. Providing feedback to head project manager as well as to his engineering colleagues on modifications i.e. GEC Alstom type 7 Turbovisory equipment done to the centreline. He approved all check sheets as representative for Eskom on the Rotek and various other contractors’ contracts.

·Appointed as a senior technician in the turbine maintenance department on the six 609 MW Turbo Generator sets. Following an initial period of training in the turbine systems and centreline he was assigned as expediter for all spares relevant to the turbines and turbine auxiliaries. In this period he also attended an advanced hydraulics course as well as course in bearing failures and vibration analysis to equip him with the necessary knowledge to handle centreline and system problems. He was also seconded as assistant to project engineer on three major centreline outages. During this period he was also extensively trained in commissioning of protection, lube oil, seal oil and various other systems relating to turbines.
