Client Project Engineer responsible for the works at Cockenzie Power Station where SP Power Systems are replacing the present substation direct wire control scheme and obsolete RTU equipment with a control system which allows remote control from the GCC (Grid Control Centre) at Kirkintilloch, removing the requirement for control by Power Station Control Room staff. The scope being the provision of control and monitoring of the 400, 275 and 33 kV Substation switchgear at Cockenzie via a Substation Control and Information System (SCIS). Upon completion of the works, the Substation Control System and plant interfaces will be in line with acceptable modern standards and current policy.
The work includes transferring 400, 275 and 33kV Substation controls currently on the Power Station main control panels and Mk2A RTUs, together with all other substation controls, indications and alarms to the new SCIS to be located in the 275 and 400kV relay rooms. This project required planning and co-ordination of Siemens together with thirteen power outages.
Responsible for various transmission and distribution Windfarm Projects from connection application through to grid connection. Duties include planning and environmental works, procurement strategy, sub station design, OH line routing and associated section 36 and 37 consent works whilst coordinating with NGT on Connection Agreement and Mod App process.

Responsible for managing the site activities of Pirelli, GE, BBPNL and Qufab, reviewing
site / contract specific health and safety documentation, auditing QA from factory production
through the construction phases to commissioning ensuring the final packages and manuals were delivered correctly, and within the required timescales .
The contracts included the carriageway installation of seven kilometres of 132kV ducted cabling,
erection of a new 132kV / 33 GIS yard from a brown field site .

On contract to Fortnum Engineering the turnkey contractor responsible for both the production and maintenance of the health and safety / QA documentation / plans etc during the construction and commissioning of a 130 MW CHP Power Station and additional boiler through to the tests on completion. Responsible for all aspects of installation, inspections, commissioning handover, commissioning of individual equipment and systems, functional testing, reliability runs and performance guarantee tests, including all associated documentation. Ensuring that the power plant operates safely under all operational conditions, and that the plant performs to the designed specifications, to the satisfaction of the client and the Scottish Grid Code.
