Professional Objectives:

I want individuals to learn skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and word usage; my objective is to assist individuals whose immediate goal is passing examinations which measure these skills. However, I also want individuals to develop an appreciation for English Literature and creative writing and to apply these skills to any undertaking. I am particularly interested in teaching individuals to write with clarity; concision; and persuasiveness as seen in literary fiction and in the prose of exemplary court decisions and articles. Teaching these skills for these purposes fosters individual empowerment and a sense of personal achievement, qualities which last for a lifetime.

A founding Associate Editor of the N.Y.U. Review of Law and Social Change, a periodical which is dedicated to an examination of emerging legal trends and issues in education, social and personal relationships, and in politics.

Concentrations in Commercial Law (The Uniform Commercial Code) and Labor Law ( i. e. Collective Bargaining).

Extensive work as an intern under the “ROR” program under the aegis of the New York State judicial system. Under this project, second year law students interviewed people who were arrested for low level, misdemeanor crimes and prepared recommendations to the presiding judge for the release of these arrestees without bail.

Deputy General Counsel with the New York City Commission on Human Rights, New York City, New York: Managed approximately six (6) staff attorneys within the Office of the General Counsel. The mission of the agency was the protection of individuals from unlawful discrimination in housing, in employment, and in the use of public accommodations, through administrative hearings and judicial enforcement of administrative orders.

EMPLOYMENT:

Private Practice Employment, Atlanta, Georgia: General civil practice, consisting of all phases of the management of a law office; interviewing, counseling, and representing commercial clients; extensive discussions with clients about how the management of their offices can influence favorable legal results in pre-litigation as well as in litigation contexts ( i.e. accurate record-keeping; attention to basic legal requirements, regarding the recruitment and retention of employees and related personnel matters, legal sufficiency and clarity of legal documents etc.; the collection of delinquent account receivables before all courts of the state of Georgia and before the Northern District of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Atlanta Division;

TEACHING ( COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP):

Teaching criminal justice courses at the New L.I.F.E. College Program of North Carolina Central University, Undergraduate Division, Lithonia, Georgia: I taught substantive and procedural criminal law, constituting the basic elements of criminology, substantive criminal law, constitutional issues, basic elements of common law crimes, appropriate defenses to criminal liability, and historical and contemporary development of criminal responsibility.

Tutor of English Grammar, English Composition, and Reasoning Through Language Arts, Metro-Atlanta, Georgia: Individual and group tutoring of persons who are preparing for the GED examination. This instruction is an in depth analysis of grammatical principles; reading comprehension, and writing composition. I teach the lost art and discipline of “sentence diagramming” to demonstrate the dynamics of parts of speech and basic grammatical principles. My goal is not simply to teach people how to pass examinations, but to instill within them a permanent and improved appreciation for language and communication skills.

Superintendent of an Adult Sunday School Ministry, Metro-Atlanta, Georgia: During these weekly sessions, the class under the direction of the “superintendent” or “facilitator” participates in an intensive analysis of the Old and New Testaments and other written materials, by examining scripture and applying biblical principles to real life experiences. The classes delve beneath the superficial analysis of the “Word” and approach the Bible with nuance and with historical and literary interpretations, as well.
