Resume

SUMMARY: Engineering Degree and experienced as a utilities manager, facilities manager, maintenance manager, maintenance supervisor, and engineer in the Pharmaceuticals, Chemical, and Foods industries. Successful in union and non-union settings. Initiated, justified, designed, and implemented projects that improved production efficiency, reduced costs and provided for a safer work environment. I have managed projects and directed maintenance crews engaged in maintaining wet and dry packaging lines, batch and continuous processes, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, boiler operations, freon systems, wastewater systems, compressed air, HVAC including humidity control, roofs, floors, buildings and grounds, pumping and piping networks, oil skimmers, storage and process tank repalcement, flare stack replacement and their ignition systems, heat exchangers, RR crossing systems, trench replacements and repairs. SAP user.

I was responsible for utilities maintenance (Utilities Maintenance Manager) at Bayer’s Baytown Texas facility where I managed the maintenance crews, supervisors, maintenance planners, and capital projects (maintenance). I controlled a $8,000,000 maintenance expense budget, as well as a capital spending budget. In addition I profiled all utility system in order to right size equipment replacements, and/or equipment additions. Profiles allowed us to select equipment to yield an efficient operation with reduced down time threats to operations.

Selected projects managed in just one category to illustrate depth of involvement

Ammomia Refrigeration, HVAC and Boilers:

Consolidated five separate ammonia refrigeration systems totaling 20,000 tons (centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating) that distributed ammonia and glycol to HVAC systems. The systems were comprised of direct expansion, three levels of suction, and high-pressure liquid distribution (sub-cooled). Project balanced three separate machine rooms (located remotely) in order to allow the three systems to share loads and/or handle entire load.

Replaced or installed about 8,000 tons of evaporative condensing.

Justified, and designed R123 system. System are variable through chiller, and primary secondary systems.

Installed R123 chillers to provide glycol to HVAC units.

Implemented and audited PSM for seven separate plants using ammonia as their refrigerant.

Managed all ammonia refrigeration projects in plants located in: Seattle, Portland, Baltimore, Longview TX, San Antonio, Tampa, St Paul MN, and La Crosse WI

Replaced a 3500-ton accumulator with a 7000-ton accumulator and installed high pressure pumping.

Re-controlled numerous ammonia chillers, replaced high capacity compressors, replaced shell and tube Chillers with welded plate and frames, and updated operator system interface to ammonia refrigeration systems.

Installed automated water treatment systems on evaporative Condensers and cooling towers that control Legionella CFU counts to less than 10, controlled discharge pressure, and water temperature.

Visited and worked with all Bayer US sites that tested positive for Legionella, to control counts below 10 cfu.

Engineered refrigeration side for Carbon Dioxide Recovery systems used in fermentation processes.

Managed the maintenance and replacement of HVAC. 152 HVAC units and 39 refrigeration systems.

Managed and maintained boiler operations burning oil, gas, and/or coal.

Held Stationary Engineer license in Seattle Wa.
