Abbott Pharmaceuticals (Abbott Vascular) – Santa Clara, CA
1997 - Hired by Guidant as Chemical Coordinator to manage hazardous materials/waste program and administer Hazard Communication, Injury & Illness Prevention Program and all associated safety/environmental training.
1998 – Implemented chemical bar coding system and subsequent inventory to better track movement of compounds through the facility culminating in a more accurate Hazardous Materials Business Plan and outside agency reporting ability. (Successful audits with Santa Clara Fire Dept., Dept. of Health, and Center for Devices and Radiological Health)
1999 – Improved fulfillment of RSO, LSO, BSO & CHO responsibilities by leading 3 levels of Safety Committee (senior management, middle management, lab owners) utilizing 3 levels of auditing programs (EHS culture, facility-related, lab chemical hygiene). Delivered revised EHS trainings to establish baseline data for onsite Training Management System
2000 – Established potent compound safety program to facilitate incoming new compounds including Actinomyocin D, Paclitaxel, cis-Platinum etc). Designed & implemented site wide Ergonomics CBT & hazard corrective system.
2001 – Interviewed & mentored Senior Management to initiate site Emergency Response & Business Continuity program.
2002 – Served as Chemical Hygiene Officer to orchestrate transition of potent compound program from previous drugs to new drug(s) of choice (Everolimus, Zotarolimus, Beta-Estradiol, Dexamethazone, Clobetasol, Osmium Tetroxide, etc )
2003 – Aligned Santa Clara facility with ISO 14,001 requirements. Delivered required Process Safety Management training to affected employees. Dove-tailed EHS accident identification/resolution process into Quality ISO 9,001 system.
2004 – Initiated “Early Intervention” program culminating in a 25% reduction of accident rate over next year.
2005 – Improved several training programs to achieve a 3% annual incident reduction over the next 3 years.
2006 – Received BSO training (Johns Hopkins University) to lead Santa Clara facility in their progressive biosafety program.
2007 – Designed “Manager C.B.T.” in “accident investigation/root cause analysis” improving Supervisor accountability.
2008 – First (initial) Abbott-Corporate EHS audit with no findings on all programs under my personal responsibility.
2009 – Served as EHS contact person for 1.5 years for newly acquired Menlo Park site (Mitraclip) establishing previously non-existing solvent chemical handling/waste management program, permits & licensing. (Successful audits with D.O.H., BAAQMD & DTSC).
2010 – Initiated Contractor Safety program to meet Abbott requirements for all contractor work relating to safety. Reviewed, revised and amalgamated site emergency response programs to generate an all-encompassing “Emergency Preparedness” plan & program.
2011 – Second Abbott Corporate EHS audit culminating in no findings for all programs under my personal responsibility.
2012 – Coordinated quarterly chemical “Spring Cleaning” program to reduce volume/concentration/use of acutely hazardous chemicals.
2013 – Designated EHS contact person for Redwood City site to reduce long-standing high rate of ergonomic-related injuries on manufacturing line.

1995 to 1997- Hired by Bio Rad Inc. as Environmental Engineer to manage hazardous waste / hazardous materials programs relating to existing compound programs (chemical, biological, radiological, pharmaceutical and associated waste programs) including air, water, soil and waste permitting, process safety management & general safety concerns and risk assessments.
