CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Redesigned the strategic sourcing process to improve early alignment with suppliers and facilitate early supplier involvement in the design process, which then reduces cost and risk in production.

Set up and managed third party distribution centers in Louisville, KY, Tokyo, Japan, Shanghai, China and Maastricht, NL.

Led the lean transformation of ATS, decreasing production costs by 20%, production lead times by 80%, and improving quality, thus reducing returns rate by three fourths.

Led two product transfer projects at Philips that were delivered on time and on budget: transition of elite brush head to China and transition of rotary brush head from Austria to China. Through supplier development, brought supplier up to Philips standards. This enabled the supplier to win a major contract with a major consumer goods leader.

Executed a turnaround of the Albar business. Increased sales and output from $1 MM to $12 MM per annum. Increased profitability from a significant loss position to over 15% net profit.

EXPERIENCE & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

PHYSIO-CONTROL Inc., Redmond, WA 2008 to 2013

Manufacturer of defibrillators used for the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest. With annual global revenues of $500M, Physio-Control was acquired by Bain Capital in February 2012 and had previously been a wholly owned subsidiary of Medtronic, Inc. ($16B revenue).

Sr. Director, Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain

Led strategic sourcing group, managing $150MM in annual spend in the direct and indirect supply base. Managed supply chain groups that included key functions including supply chain planning, logistics, trade compliance, and worldwide 3PL DC management.

Strategic Sourcing

* Implemented supplier rating system which enabled us to rapidly improve the performance of the supply base.

* Developed a supply risk analysis and management system that facilitated reduced continuity risk. This system managed both quality and business risk. Developed key metrics for supplier health.

* Created a cost savings database to enter, track and report on cost savings projects. This tool allowed the team to meet annual cost savings objectives of over $5MM per year.

* Introduced early warning component obsolescence system to assure product continuity and significantly reduce line downs due to supply issues.

* Negotiated new contracts with strategic suppliers, gaining lower costs and closer supplier relationships. One negotiation resulted in a three years savings of over $9MM

Supply Chain

* Key member of Separation Management Team which planned and executed Physio's successful divestiture from Medtronic.

* Set up and managed import and export trade compliance system to assure Physio products could be shipped to customers worldwide.

* Developed supply chain management and planning processes for the $100MM aftermarket parts business. These processes increased the fill rates from 60% to over 95% and increased inventory turns from two to over eight.

* Developed reverse logistics process for returns, trade-ins, sales demos, and failure analysis parts. The new processes reduced the processing times from two weeks to less than four hours.

* Developed a fully Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliant refurbishment capability to convert used equipment into sellable assets.

Systems Management & Team Development

* During tenure at Physio, increase scope of responsibility form solely aftermarket operations to include strategic sourcing and supply chain.

* Utilize Hoshin X-matrix to set team & individual performance objectives that are in alignment with company initiatives. Team members create & update action plans to track and communicate their performance.

* Successfully managed & motivated team through major departmental changes prompted by divestiture initiatives; skilled at hiring high-performing/high-potential professionals and coaching/mentoring for development opportunities. Established Performance Improvement Plans to manage under-performers.

Managed contract manufacturing and brush head commodities and suppliers.

* Managed new product implementation of motor with supplier in Asia. This was a major implementation with over 30 BOM parts and an extensive automation system.

* Sourced wear indicator filaments to meet a competitive product challenge.
