Researches & Projects
Field Development Optimization Under Geological Uncertainty
2012 In this project, history matching is performed by using SVD parameterization, and
partical swarm optimization (PSO) and NOMAD are used for optimization (in progress).
Production Optimization Under Uncertainty
2012 Study on production optimizition with multiscale regularization.
2012 Applying a multi-stage optimizition approach (retrospective optimization) with a novel
clustering technique to the well control optimization problem for reservoirs with uncertain
gelological description, using derivative free algorithms: SPSA, QIM-SPSA, EnOpt.
2011 Improvement of the QIM-SPSA optimization algorithm (a derivative-free method) in
production optimization applications and comparison with other methods, SPSA, EnOpt,
PSO, Hook-Jeeves direct search, etc.
History Matching
2011 Implementing the Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient for History Matching problems
to find a more efficient algorithm, and comparing with truncated SVD parameterization.
2011 Applying the Subspace method in the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm to generate
multiple history matched models.
2011 A study on using SVD parameterization with different regularization terms to estimate
non-Gaussian permeability fields.
2
2010 Developing a code in Fortran for SVD-EnRML algorithm with a 2phase - 3D simulator,
which aims to perform Randomized Maximum Likelihood (RML) to history match production
data with truncated SVD parameterization and generate plausible realizations of porosity,
horizontal and vertical log permeability. Implementing this method, required implementing the
adjoint method and the gradient simulator method (direct method).
2010 Developing a code in Fortran to compute the gradient of objective function w.r.t. model
parameters for a 3D, 2phase simulator with adjoint method, and history matching observed data
with minimizing objective function using the BFGS algorithm, as a course project of History
Matching.
2010 Implementing a fast DCT Parameterization (Discrete Cosine Transform) to use in the
Ensemble Kalman Filter for history matching production data.
2010 A detailed study on the History Matching with truncated SVD parameterization (based
on SVD of a dimensionless sensitivity matrix) to perform RML and trying different ideas to
improve its efficiency.
2010 Using the ensemble Kalman Smoother (EnKS) and the EnKF to estimate the depth of
oil-water contact (OWC), porosity and permeability fields by history matching production
data on some synthetic 3D reservoirs.
2010 A study on the effect of performing covariance localization in the EnKF on
inconsistency when we rerun the realizations from time zero. (Summer 2010)
2009 Using the EnKF to history match production data of a synthetic reservoir as a course
project of closed-loop reservoir management.
