Communications Technician

Provided communications support to Space Shuttle crews at Kennedy Space Center and locations around the world. Repaired and tested (to component level), electronic, audio, and computer equipment, ranging from headsets to paging systems to complete communications systems; fabricated cables (copper twisted pair, and fiber optic). Installed, maintained, and operated public address systems used for KSC meetings, public launch-viewing sites, and Astronaut Hall of Fame inductions. Traveled to Morocco, Spain, and France to prepare and operate emergency landing sites. Worked closely with NASA executive leadership and Astronauts to identify needs and ensure expectations were met.

Selected for the 2011 Launch Directors Award for preventing the scrub of shuttle launch STS-133 by enabling site validation for emergency operations; climbed a tower at the France TAL site, identified the problem, and repaired a faulty GPS tracking antenna for site validation.

Received a Certificate of Appreciation from Abacus for supporting a 2010 visit from President Obama.

Honored with multiple NASA achievement awards for initiatives that included:

Activating the Transatlantic Abort Landing (TAL) site in Istres, France; part of five-person team that designed and built a full communication system, including a communications tower with several antennas.

Designing, installing, and testing of a state-of-the-art digital satellite system at three TAL sites. Constructed cables, fabricated equipment racks, and loaded software/firmware. Validated the communications system to support future missions.

Developing and implementing the Kennedy Space Center Forward Return Link project, a networked data relay station that supports Space Shuttle landings at KSC.

Troubleshooting, isolating, and verifying the Space Shuttleas Microwave Scanning Beam Landing System (MSBLS). Identified and resolved numerous faults in the system.
