K EY A DMINISTRATIVE ACCOM PLISHMENTS

As Chair of the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science:

n Directed the renovation and construction of new Computer Science classrooms, computer infrastructure,

and offices.

n Initiated the development of the Laboratory for Advanced Biomedical Informatics, an education and

research collaboration that serves as a core facility for LSUS and 17 colleagues at the LSU Health

Sciences Center.

n Directed the development of the Computer Information Systems degree program.

n Prepared the university documentation for ABET re-accreditation, and conducted the successful bid for

accreditation renewal.

n Created an IT support staff position for Computer Science and hired the first such IT administrator.

n Developed an Actuarial Science concentration in the Mathematics degree program and hired the

necessary supporting faculty.

n Contributed the LSUS administrative portion of the National Institutes of Health Louisiana Biomedical

Research Network grant proposal, awarded in 2005.

As Dean of the College of Sciences:

n Supervised the educational, research, and service activities of the Departments of Mathematics, Computer

Science, Chemistry/Physics, and Biology.

n Renewed and expanded the pre-Healthcare preparation program, and brought all aspects of this multi-

faceted effort under the direction of one faculty member.

n Supported the installation of numerous student academic and service organizations, including a chapter

of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the premier national healthcare honor society.

n Hired four new Department Chairs.

n Developed the Animation and Visual Effects program, and hired the Director of the program.

n Served as the LSUS Technology Transfer Officer, overseeing the development of licensable intellectual

property and negotiating option and license agreements.

n Raised funds for the purchase of specialized equipment such as a Scanning Electron Microscope, a

fluorescence spectrometer, and an FTIR spectrometer.

As Provost and VC for Academic Affairs:

n Directed the rapid and large expansion of the LSUS Dual Enrollment high school outreach effort,

resulting in an increase from 12 to 950 students.

n Led the ongoing revision of UNIV 100 into four college-specific 3-credit team-taught courses.

n Instituted college-wide weekly symposia and seminars, beginning with four meet&greet faculty/student

social events at the start of the fall semester.

n Initiated the process of revising all degree programs to reflect a 39 credit-hour general education core.

n Instituted the hiring of the first LSUS Director of Multicultural Affairs in spring 2009.

n Guided the campus through a prolonged sequence of massive budget cuts as part of the LSUS

administrative team and a member of the Budget Crisis Committee.
