Engineering Associate II (Systems Architect):

As a systems architect at Shaw Cablesytems, I worked with requirements gathering, systems analysis and systems architecture design on a project basis. I carried each project from conception to delivery, acting as a project manager and project engineer, using waterfall and agile methodologies. My responsibilities included requirements gathering for applications on Video On Demand (VOD) technology over multiple platforms. Creating systems architecture drawings that provided easy to integrate, scalable and sustainable solutions with future growth opportunities. Performing vendor evaluations confirming standards compliance, fit, delivery and cost analysis. Working with multiple teams such as IT, Networking, Operations, Quality Assurance to create use cases, and perform end-to-end network and capacity planning. As an architect I also wrote white papers, concept documents, project briefs and project reports. I performed project hand offs to the appropriate teams and performed maintenance of projects post-delivery, if needed

August 2008–March 2010 Sutherland Global Services Windsor, Ontario

Team Lead - Research in Motion (RIM):

As part of the various programs at Sutherland Global Services, I worked as a Team Lead for the RIM program. In this role I was in charge of a team of up to 36 associates. My responsibilities included coaching my team and making sure the target metrics were met. Working closely with newly hired associates to make sure they are up to speed with tenured associates in terms of process, technical and quality knowledge, I made sure I nested with them and guided them appropriately throughout the call. I also performed quality audits, client calibration calls and launched pilots for the new processes/tools.

Quality Assurance – Research in Motion (RIM):

Prior to being the Team Lead, I was the Quality Auditor, auditing 150 associates. The responsibilities included working on new processes, performing coaching, client and internal calibration meetings and training new auditors. I also gathered and manipulated statistical data dumps for quality and trend analysis using the Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing techniques. I was awarded Employee of the Month, Legendary Leader, Service Supernova and Service Superstar.

Technical Support Associate – Research in Motion (RIM):

As the Technical Support Associate I troubleshot handheld device issues including device operating system and applications. I assisted the corporate client’s technical support team with the configuration and the troubleshooting of BlackBerry Enterprise Server over various Windows server and mail platforms including Microsoft Exchange, Domino Lotus Notes and Novell Groupwise.

2007–2008 Nextec CNC Manufacturing Lahore, Pakistan

R&D Engineer

As an R&D Engineer, I worked on the designing, machining and production of molds, dies, fixtures and reverse engineering of automotive parts. The parts included motorcycle engines, gearbox housing, engine blocks and engine heads, using the VISI CAD/CAM software. Furthermore I setup and installed DeviceNet Flex I/O servo drives systems and Allen Bradley PLC programming to control robotics process sequences. I also setup the direct numeric control for CNC machines using the xpert(multi)DNC software.

Chair and Founder of IEEE Women in Engineering (SAS)

I started Women in Engineering affinity group for IEEE Southern Alberta Section. As part of awareness of the new group I applied different marketing strategies advertising for the WIE group in the engineering magazines, such as the PEG and IEEE newsletter, as well as creating groups on social networks like Linkedin and Facebook. I have hosted multiple events including technical, financial, casual and networking events around Calgary. I have worked with different groups such as University of Calgary and Engineers Without Borders to host some of the events.

Chair and founder of Shaw Women’s Network

I started a Women’s Network at Shaw Cablesystem. As the chair of Shaw Women’s Network I hosted one session a month, where the Shaw Women, including the female managers, worked various skills such as leadership, presentation skills, communication skills, work-life balance, mentoring and handling stressful situations. I organized an event to expand on the topics listed above. In this event, Kim Farwell, APEGA president, at the time was invited as a speaker to talk to leadership, mentoring, work-life balance, and authenticity.
