Pierburg GmbH, Nuess Germany, Auburn Hills, MI & Greenville, South Carolina Jan 2008 – Dec
2008
A $1B German manufacturer of EGRs, Electronic Throttle Controls, oil, and secondary air pumps.
Program Manager Advanced Purchasing- North America
Managed $40M for 6-new ETC & diesel EGR assemblies, from concept to PPAP. Major responsibilities included updating project
budgets & ECO’s, B.O.M’s. Monitored PPAP and prototypes dates, coordinated supplier APQP meetings & recommendations to
sourcing committees for new suppliers. Communicated daily w/Germany & South Carolina Purchasing & manufacturing facilities.
Sole Purchasing representative (under no direct supervision) acting as single point-of-contact for a group of 15 engineers performing
the above tasks.
EGR assemblies consisted of 58 new part components such as machined Aluminum Die casting, 24v motor plastic gear
assembly with plastic housings. Vacuum actuator assembly. Turned shaft assembly with welded flap stampings and turned
Valve Discs. Powder metal assembly, PBC assembly, stainless steel gaskets and O-rings.
ETC assemblies consisted of 22 new part components such as machined Aluminum Die casting, 24v motor plastic gear
assembly with plastic housings. Turned shaft assembly with welded flap stampings and magnetic end. Powder metal
assembly, PBC assembly and O-rings.
Negotiated $4.73 initially quoted component down to $1.93 prior to PPAP, for a resulting annual cost save of $500k.
Successfully achieved overall project-targeted budgets by working with internal engineering & suppliers.
Created a newly comprehensive supplier-tracking matrix resulting in improved project “visibility”.
Created individual supplier project history network files resulting in improved negotiating leverage.
Improved supplier & internal engineering relationships resulting in deterioration of “them vs. us” environment.
Identified a number of viable Chinese Die casting suppliers due to the various requirements of our castings needs, such as:
Tight tolerances; Thin-wall-to-thick-wall transitions; Number of machining operations required: Casting machines size
required to insert cast Stainless steel rings, etc.
Indirect management of 2-Junior Buyers who split their time 75% / 25% between commodity purchasing and advanced
purchasing.
Tenneco Automotive, Monroe MI (contract) May 2007- Oct 2007
A$6.2B manufacturer of shock absorbers, brake assembles and muffler assemblies.
Senior Buyer.
Responsible for investigating LCC suppliers with emphasis on China, for Shock Absorber, Muffler Assemblies and Brakes.
Identified Spanish & Malaysian muffler suppliers resulting in negotiating 10% - 15% cost reduction . This was accomplished
during analyzing Make-vs.-Buy cost comparison between supplier’s mfg processes, cycle times, raw materials cost and
Freight/Shipping.
Significantly improved Indian supplier’s delivery, quality & working relationship by implementing daily conference calls
reviewing schedule of parts & tracking numbers to be shipped along with QC reports. Improved internal Tenneco
manufacturing order release communications back to the supplier.
Improved suppliers’ invoice payment timing by following up w/Tenneco incoming Receiving, making sure they entered
“Parts in stock” vs. “Parts received in”. The results of this activity eliminated suppliers from threatening to stop shipment on
future orders and improved relations.
