Traffic Coordinator / Conductor/ Yard Foreman / Brake Man
Yard Coordinator
Coordinated the live and efficient operations out of major rail terminal in Saskatchewan
reporting directly to the District Operations Coordinator in charge of the province.
Visually monitored the progress of trains on a display console controlling all movements of
Trains and on-track equipment by the operation of train signals and track switches.
Answered and dictated roughly 500 phone calls pe r shift and handled 100's of radio calls
each tour of duty.
Delegated duties and supervised all yard crews.
Managed engineering work on rail tracks in rail yard and determined positioning of trains;
supervised1500 individual rail car shipments in the yard and assigned outbound trains.
Routed and placed in/outbound trains depending on length, weight, and dangerous
commodities marshalling.
Coordinated transportation movements of terminal traffic to ensure safe and efficient
operations throughout the running yard.
Liaised closely with other departments including: Rail Traffic Control, Maintenance, and
Mechanical Departments.
Responsible for managing evacuation procedures in the event of a major incident such as a
dangerous commodity leak.
Oversaw all freight shipments in the yard, determined location, destination, and train
assignment.
Worked in collaboration with the Main Line Rail Traffic Controller ensuring no delays to any
train or yard engine.
Train Conductor, 1987 – 2012
In charge of operations of a specific train directing the engineer and train crew in running
the train, and coordinating the train’s movement with dispatchers and yard masters at
destinations along the route.
Observed, interpreted and relayed signals and other indications affecting tra in movement.
Communicated with crew members using specific hand signals or radio to indicate direction
of movement, stop and set or release air brakes.
Provided protection by placing warning flares and flags appropriately and communicated
with other trains in an emergency situation.
Got on and off, and ride moving equipment to effect the switching of rail equipment in yard
operations or at customer sidings.
Prepared and completed forms and documents relevant to train orders and switching lists.

Ensured crew safety according to Canadian operating rules and regulations.
Responsible for marshalling of dangerous commodities, open top loads and dimensional
loads on yard transfer movement.
Reported accidents or events and supplied reporting, responsible for train brake status report
and its disposition.
Flagged other train movements in emergency situations.
Maintained train journal, list of equipment and the order and placing of equipment in the
train or yard movement.
