use of Web-based resources, and other media. Assist graduate students with
specific structure, format, or grammar related questions. Set an agenda
with students, focusing on specific skills to be taught. Provide students
with writing and documentation resources (APA, CSE, MLA). Develop and
deliver writing and documentation workshops.
2006 - 2009 Contract Manager, The Children's Trust, Miami, Florida
Supervised 14 grantees of The Children's Trust after school and summer camp
programs. Value of these contracts exceeded $ 3.1 million and included
some of the largest after school providers in Miami-Dade County: The Family
Christian Association of America, Cool Kids Learn, Concerned African Women,
and from 2006-2008, the YMCA and the YWCA. Provided technical assistance to
provider agencies on best practice after school programming. Reviewed and
approved monthly invoices. Monitored programs, made site visits, and
conducted program evaluations. (Reduction in Force on 8/6/09 eliminated
10% of position at The Trust including mine.)
2005-06 Resource Development Officer, Miami Dade College, Department of
Resource Development
Served as sponsored research officer for faculty and college projects in
science education, technology, and community development/outreach.
Developed grant proposals securing grants from the National Science
Foundation (faculty development, curriculum planning), USDA (economic
development/traineeships), US Department of Education (Title V) and wrote
other grant proposals to state, local, and private sector sources for
student recruitment/retention, career exploration, other student-related
activities, science education, nutrition and wellness.
2001- 05 Grant Writer, City of Miami (FL) Office of Grants
Administration
Conducted grants (program) planning, developed and wrote proposals for
historic preservation (over $1.1 million in external funding) - for
interior restoration of City Hall (historic Pan American Seaplane
Terminal), the historic Black police precinct in Overtown, and with the
Dade Heritage Trust, the old Miami High Bungalow. Wrote grant and line item
proposal for the repair of the Bicentennial Park seawall, capital
improvement in several city parks including installation of ADA-accessible
playground equipment and facilities. Developed with the Economic
Development and Planning Departments successful EDA planning and
infrastructure grants for the mid-town Miami Project and the Virginia Key
master plan. Created and delivered grant writing training and OMB
compliance and other grant administration topics. Provided analysis of
Federal and State grant programs and monitor relevant legislation.
1999- 01 Program Planner, Phoenix Houses of Florida, Ocala, FL
Directed grants planning and proposal development. Drafted policies and
procedures for residential treatment of adults with substance abuse
problems. Developed prevention activities for children of these adults.
Provided analysis of pending legislation, conducted program and project
evaluation.

Created and taught a high school current events course at Trilogy School of
Learning Alternatives that emphasized hands-on research, and independent
thinking. Conducted social studies seminar for graduating seniors. Provided

Directed fiscal operations, grant management, administrative services, and
human resources for statewide high school and middle school science
outreach program. Drafted grant proposals and monitored existing grant

1994-97 Resource Specialist (Grants), City of Miami (FL) Budget Division
Co-developer of Grants Section to allow the City to obtain external funding
from Federal, State, and other sources. Developed and wrote grant
proposals to restore the Virrick Gym on the Coconut Grove waterfront,
historic Tower Theatre in Little Havana, and to preserve the hammock at
Simpson Park, create a nature trail in Virginia Key and other grant for
cultural programming and the arts.
