DEI SERVICES CORP., Winter Park, FL 01/2009 - 01/2010
Sr. Systems Safety Engineer
Ensured that the design of all military aircraft and vehicles converted
into simulators and trainers met with Systems Safety Engineering
requirements of MIL-STD-882D for 14 Department of Defense (DoD) programs
worth over $130 million by developing a formal System Safety Program Plan
(SSPP) that managed environmental, safety, and health risks encountered in
the development, test, production, use, and disposal of DoD equipment. The
Systems Safety Program Plan consisted of identifying associated mishap
risks through a System/Subsystem hazard assessment of engineering designs
and converting the hazard assessment results into a quantifiable Hazard
Risk Assessment Matrix that calculated Hazard Severity & Hazard
Probability levels. Any identified risk were then eliminated or reduced to
an acceptable level through engineering design techniques and
administrative control of conditions and practices. Overall, this improved
operational readiness, reduced life cycle cost, and increased
environmental and occupational safety for all acquisition programs.

. Documented potential safety hazards throughout the design phase and
recorded the development of administrative and engineering controls in a
formal System Safety Program Plan (SSPP).
. Evaluated site surveys to determine compatibility with electrical,
mechanical, and environmental constraints.

drawings to verify safety and conformance with performance
specifications.
. Provided safety engineering guidance to program design engineers and
installation teams.
. Evaluated materials used in production to ensure that hazardous materials
were minimized or eliminated.
. Developed a Hazard Risk Assessment Matrix that quantified Hazard Severity
& Hazard Probability levels.
. Recommended and implemented proactive administrative & engineering
control measures in accordance with MIL-STD-882D that eliminated or
reduced associated mishap risks to an acceptable level.
. Incorporated Human Factors Engineering into the design of systems in
accordance with MIL-STD-1472F.
. Developed protocols and procedures for Operating and Maintenance (O&M)
manuals/Technical Publications that listed "Warnings" and "Cautions" and
provided instruction in the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
. Detailed human interface guidelines for the use of PPE and Repair Parts
and Special Tools Lists (RPSTL).
