Research Assistant
. Kinetics and Mechanisms of the Oxidation Processes for Unsaturated
Hydrocarbon Modified Scavengers
Development of new co-polyester polymer material (for food packaging
industry) with ability to absorb oxygen at room temperature, and thereby
prolong shelf life. Studied the chemical reactions between functional
groups of polymers in the reactive extrusion. Quantified oxidation
kinetics of oxygen-scavenging materials; verified and identified
reactions. Researched and evaluated processing techniques including
extrusion, injection and blow molding.
. PET/Nano clay composite through In-situ polymerization with PET
Studied the methods and distribution effects of nano-size clay in PET.
Different clay distribution methods were applied, including in situ
polymerization with PET, twin screw reactive extrusion and different
distribution media. XRD and SEM methods were used to observe distribution
effect and properties of composites were evaluated.
. Evaluation of Recycled PET Properties after Solid Polymerization Process
Researched possibility of using a high percentage of recycled PET
material for packaging industry: increased molecular weight of recycled
PET to commercial levels with a solid-state polymerization reactor;
blended recycled and commercial PET in various concentrations and blow
molded into bottles. Evaluated thermal, mechanical and optical properties
and blow molding parameters of recycled blends. Technical support and
trouble shooting in manufacturing of PET bottles from 100% recycled
material.
. Research of the Effects of Color Additives on PET Processing
Studied the effects of colorant on the manufacturing of packaging
containers: blended PET with various types and concentrations of pigments
and dyes; assessed effects of colorants and their carriers on thermal,
mechanical and optical properties of materials and products. Evaluated
operation windows and manufacturing parameters of twin screw extrusion,
injection and blow molding.
