EXPERIENCE

ASSOCIATE OCTOBER ** - PRESENT

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

CHERNOFF NEWMAN

OFFICES IN CHARLESTON AND COLUMBIA, SC AND ORLANDO, FL

Responsible for co-leading a team of 12 people that consists of writers, art directors,

production services, traffic, interactive and social media specialists.

Rebranded Chernoff Newman by creating a new website and marketing communication

pieces that helped to position Chernoff Newman as a fresh and innovative advertising

company. Through the use of new technologies and turn-key programming, we were able to

respond to the latest trends and keep our work and our case studies up-to-date.

Created a preference and demand for locally grown produce from South Carolina by

expanding the consumer base to a younger, more environmentally conscious audience.

Tapping into the nationwide “locavore” movement, where consumers buy from local farmers,

we created the Palmettovore campaign to encourage healthier eating and stimulate South

Carolina’s agricultural economy. Our multi-faceted guerilla marketing and social media

approach (through Facebook and Twitter) drove demand for Certified SC Grown products and

educated consumers on the importance of buying locally. The Palmettovore campaign

garnered a lot of attention as well as several advertising awards.

Led a campaign to increase enrollment at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in a

sluggish economy, by encouraging job seekers to return to college to further their skills.

Through a multi-faceted humor-based campaign that featured mock classified ads and

billboards as well as TV and radio spots for jobs like Pea Inspector and Chicken Chaser, we

succeeded in educating the public on the benefits of returning to school, which resulted in the

largest enrollment to-date for the college.

Created a three-year campaign to develop a positive public perception of Palmetto Health

Heart Hospital, drive volume to the hospital and sustain the increased growth. The website

28HeartDays.com was set up as a fun and relevant resource for event-specific and heart-

health information, complete with games and viral videos that kept the public interested. The

campaign saw a significant increase in private-pay business at the hospital, and the site saw 8

million visitors at a 10% click-thru rate, which is five times the industry standard.

Engaged a large audience on a very limited budget, by creating an ambient, PR and social

media campaign for TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) Awareness Month. 300 Brian Brain heads

with the ThinkTBI.com logo were positioned strategically throughout Charleston. The unusual

display created a big buzz around the city and drove a lot of traffic to the TBI website.

During my tenure as Associate Creative, my work has won the Best of Interactive Award at the

American Advertising Federation of the Midlands for 2 straight years, 2 Telly Awards, 2 Wallie

Awards, 6 Mercury Awards, 8 Inshow Awards and 52 Addy Awards.

EXPERIENCE

ASSOCIATE OCTOBER 06 - OCTOBER 07

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

MARC USA

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL

Led the hospitality team, responsible for accounts, such as Norwegian Cruise Lines, Orient

Lines, Greater Fort Lauderdale, The Las Olas Company, Sandals Resorts and Beaches

Resorts.

Managed the day-to-day creative direction of the hospitality team, consisting of art directors,

copywriters and production department.

Rebranded The Las Olas Company, which consists of Las Olas Boulevard and Riverside Hotel

high-end shopping, food and accommodations. The campaign elevated the brand on an

extremely limited budget, by employing partial stock, partial photo shoot and doing my own

compositing, giving their print campaign a truly unique look that far surpassed their budget.

Re-energized Greater Fort Lauderdale’s advertising campaign, by concentrating on luxury

markets. I did a facelift on their print campaign and developed three new television spots,

advertorials and a 12-page magazine insert that spoke specifically to this demographic.

Helped launch Greater Fort Lauderdale’s Coast 954 in New York City. Created a full-blown

beach experience in NYC to tease Greater Fort Lauderdale. Employed tactics such as a

mobile beach scene to advertise the store. A street team passed out hand-warmers, asking

people to warm up at Coast 954. Completely transformed an existing building to expose the

public to the Fort Lauderdale experience, complete with giant life-size palm trees and beach

towel signage.

Led several successful rebranding initiatives for existing clients, such as True Value, Lexus

Nexus and the Pennsylvania Lottery, as well as new business pitches for Shoney's, Piccadilly,

Office Depot and Dynamite Plant Food.

ART DIRECTOR MAY 01 - FEBRUARY 03

BARKER CAMPBELL FARLEY, BCF

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA

Senior Art Director involved in all areas of advertising media from concept to completion

including print, broadcast, new media and interactive.

Successfully concepted, art directed and produced TV commercials for various clients.

Directed several large-scale photo shoots for print media. Won several awards for print, web,

package design and TV.

EXPERIENCE

Reinvigorated Virginia Tourism's "Virginia is for Lovers" brand by introducing a new campaign

that focused on the passion of both Virginia residents and its visitors.

Established a new direction within an existing brand for Virginia Beach Tourism, and

successfully created big advertising impact on a limited budget.

Developed and designed a new corporate identity and brand for First Colony Coffees and

Teas, from packaging to advertising, and won numerous awards for both.

Repositioned an area bank from a typical stuffy suit to a more unique voice by creating a

brand that would stand out in an over-saturated market. "Unbankity" was a first in the industry.

Helped revitalize Fredericksburg's Group Tour Campaign by creating a postcard campaign

where famous historical residents invite new visitors to explore the city's rich history. Very

atypical in an industry that usually advertises by listing all there is to see and do.

Art directed highly effective TV and print materials for Hall Automotive a fast-paced,

deadline-driven account. Found innovative ways to stretch a very limited budget.

Instrumental in several successful new business pitches, including Virginia Tourism, Bank

@lantec, United Pet Group, Hall Automotive, First Colony Coffees and Teas, Obici Hospital

and Wintergreen Resort.

SR. ART DIRECTOR FEBRUARY 03 - MARCH 05

including print, broadcast, radio and interactive.

Developed a new image for Westminster-Canterbury, and produced a promotional brochure

that won both Gold and the prestigious Judge’s Choice Award at the 2004 Addys.

Launched a new identity and brand campaign for Tidewater Community College (TCC), giving

the client a new image and voice that aided in a marked increase in enrollment. Concepted,

art directed and designed billboards, TV commercials, newspaper and magazine ads,

collateral material, mascot costuming, sports uniforms and bookstore items.

Managed art direction and design concepts for the rebranding of Norfolk International Airport,

doubling the airport’s traffic and sales during a strained economy. Responsible for all aspects

of the overhaul, including print, TV, radio, interactive promotion and marketing giveaways. My

team gave the airport call letters (ORF - Outrageously Reduced Fares) a retail footing and

produced a website devoted solely to ticket sales an industry first. The campaign was so

successful that other airports around the country mimicked the idea.
