Organizational Setting

FAO Azerbaijan Partnership and Liaison Office, in close cooperation with the government and its in-line Ministries/Agencies, contributes to the sustainable agri-food systems, and supports the government with addressing issues food security, agriculture and rural development, natural resource management in the country. FAO’s technical assistance, provided mainly through projects, includes institution building, development of knowledge and competencies, and exchange of experience among FAO member countries.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAOR, the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (AFAOR) and in close coordination with the National Project Coordinator (NPC) and project team (national and international consultants), as well as national counterpart

Technical Focus

The objective of the training program is to equip laboratory personnel with the knowledge and skills required for method validation, verification, and uncertainty evaluation, ensuring accurate method assessments and best practices in microbiological sample analysis.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Develop and provide tailored training materials, including presentations and protocols, to meet the laboratory's specific needs.

• Conduct 2 days training on hands-on practical sessions, 1) demonstrating techniques for microbiological sample analysis and the use of laboratory equipment, and on 2) method validation, verification, and measurement validation, as well as the evaluation of data for uncertainty calculation.

• Train participants on essential calculations including:

o Overview of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements

o Accuracy (trueness and precision)

o Specificity and selectivity

o Limit of Detection (LOD) and Limit of Quantification (LOQ)

o Linearity and working range

o Repeatability and reproducibility

o Measurement uncertainty considerations in validation

o Key terminology and definitions

o Difference between validation and verification

o When to verify a method (standard methods, regulatory methods)

o Parameters for verification (limited vs. full validation approach)

o Practical steps in verification of standard methods

o Acceptance criteria and decision-making

o Verification reports and documentation

• Provide a report summarizing the training process and its outcomes, evaluation of participants' performance, and recommendations for improving laboratory practices.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field)

• At least 5 years of professional experience in training for method validation, verification, and uncertainty evaluation in laboratory settings

• Working knowledge of English (Level C)

• National of Azerbaijan or resident of the country with valid work permit

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners developing effective working relationships

• Experience with UN system is considered an asset.
