Summary of Duties

The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct research focused on plant pathology, epidemiology, and data analysis, with an emphasis on meta-analysis, spatial statistics, Bayesian approaches, and reproducible research practices. The candidate will compile, integrate, and analyze data, develop open-access software tools, and prepare manuscripts for interdisciplinary projects related to soybean plant pathology and epidemiology in Ohio. The candidate will also contribute to mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, developing tutorials, and creating tools for plant pathology community. This position requires a proactive individual with strong organizational skills and a commitment to advancing reproducible, data-driven research.

Essential Duties

To conduct meta-analyses, including frequentist and Bayesian approaches, to synthesize data from seed treatment and foliar fungicide studies in soybeans. Develop and apply spatial models to analyze the distribution and spread of soybean pathogens in Ohio, leveraging open-access tools like R and QGIS to visualize and predict disease patterns for improved management strategies. Create and maintain standardized pipelines for data analysis, including the development of R packages and tutorials in plant pathology. Prepare and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, with a focus on interdisciplinary botanical epidemiology research.

To enhance research reproducibility by developing best practices and standardized analytical pipelines. Collaborate with plant pathologists and research methodology experts to integrate web-based tools (e.g., GitHub, OSF, and preprint platforms like BioRxiv) into research workflows. Develop and maintain open-access software tools for botanical epidemiology analysis and data visualization. Create Shiny apps and dashboards for lab management and standardized reporting.

To mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students in research activities, with a focus on botanical epidemiological analysis.

Degree Requirements

A PhD in Plant Pathology, Agronomy/Crop Science, Statistics, Botanical Epidemiology, or Data Science.

Experience required

Experience with statistical analysis of complex datasets.

Proficiency in R and other open-access software for data analysis and visualization.

Strong organizational skills and experience in manuscript preparation and publication.

Experience mentoring students or training others in data analysis is preferred.

Familiarity with Shiny apps, Quarto, or dashboard development is a plus.
