General Description
This position is responsible for establishing and implementing a comprehensive health services program in accordance with Head Start Standards for Head Start children and families.
Examples of Work Performed
Plans, conducts, and evaluates the goals, policies, and activities designed to implement the Health and Dental objectives as defined in the Performance Standards.
Directs, arranges, coordinates and monitors contractual and donated services by health professionals in the community.
Provides leadership support and technical assistance to department staff, in the design, management and implementation of the health services.
Assists and arranges screening and exams of all children as specified in the Health Performance Standards.
Serves as consultant to all Head Start staff with health and nursing information.
Coordinates the established Health Services Advisory Committee which advises in the planning, operation and evaluation of health services.
Coordinates with the Education Department staff to integrate health activities in the curriculum.
Collaborates with the Nutrition Director to address dietary needs of children.
Assists in planning and implementing staff/parent training on preventative basic care and health related issues.
Oversees and monitors emergency medical care, safety and sanitation measures for all children and staff.
Develops and maintains a Procedures Manual and a Health Services Plan to successfully meet all Health Performance Standards.
Provides consistent follow-up on referrals on all Head Start children and families.
Follows and provides guidance for all contacts made to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for any suspected child abuse or neglect cases.
Develops policies and procedures for handling all suspected cases of child abuse.
Monitors completion of tasks and data collection to meet Head Start Standards, Child Care Licensing requirements and State Health Requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a Health Related Field.
Requires a minimum of two (2) years experience in the field of school nursing or pediatric clinic settings and management experience.
Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Must have an automobile and current liability insurance for work related travel.
