Job Purpose
The System Administrator’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the IS&T (Information Systems & Technology) systems that support core business requirements. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, securing, and optimizing all computer systems, servers, networks, and software systems and their underlying infrastructure. networked software and associated hardware and operating systems. The Systems Administrator will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to maximize the benefit of all IS&T systems.
Responsibilities
Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
Collaborates with IS&T department employees to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Develops strategies for client/server implementations; architect and secure the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
Conducts research on systems and technology and makes recommendations and/or justifications to support purchasing efforts.
Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcSysers, and contractors to secure and administer systems and technology products, licenses, and services.
Monitors the IT service desk system for tickets with server and server resource issues; prioritizing and responding to these service desk tickets as appropriate.
Serves as a cornerstone and provides timely response to escalations from the IT service desk.
Performs storage systems configuration and management.
Defines system recovery procedures and performs backups and backup testing.
Plans and deploys system upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
Monitors and tests system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
Manages enterprise directory services and supports network and server infrastructure.
Ensures connectivity and security of all servers, shared software, groupware, unified communication systems, and other applications.
Recommends and executes modifications to the IS&T environment to improve efficiency, reliability, security, and performance.
Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
Creates and maintains documentation including but not limited to system configurations, processes, service records, and inventory.
Qualifications
Post Secondary education in related IS&T field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in the IS&T field and minimum 2 years of experience in a Systems Administrator role.
Experience deploying, securing, and administering Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Azure resources, Microsoft 365 tenants and products (Email, SharePoint, Teams, Security etc..), Virtual environments (Hyper-V), Microsoft server technologies (DNS, DHCP, IIS, group policy), Network hardware and technologies (TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, VoIP, Firewalls), Storage technologies (SAN, NAS), Backup systems, Cybersecurity systems, Hardware & Software management / deployment systems, and all underlying infrastructure these systems and technologies require.
Experience administering SCCM, Meraki, and CAD systems / software would be an asset.
Strong dedication to customer service with proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with people at every computer skill level, especially those with limited computer skills and experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication, including interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
Detail-oriented and quality driven with a proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Adaptable and enjoys working with a wide variety of technologies.
Demonstrated experience successfully managing vendor relations.
Ability to work in an industrial environment.
Working Conditions
The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.
Physical Requirements
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and interacting with several clients. The incumbent is also required to sit for extended periods of time.
