Duties
You will perform emergency protocols and procedures by providing basic life support (BLS) established by the system medical director.
You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities.
You will perform firefighting duties for a variety of facilities and perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems.
You will select and apply the proper techniques or procedures for fire suppression and emergency situations.
You will operate a wide array of firefighting equipment to suppress fires.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You must have successfully completed a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). You must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program.
You will be required to obtain and maintain current Firefighter certifications, clarified in Qualifications below.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. Information on exceptions and waivers:
Employee must be able to lift and move heavy objects such as charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers, equipment, incapacitated persons, and litter patients.
Qualifications
GS-07:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures.
***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certificates for the GS-07: Firefighter I and Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter (REQUIRED ONLY AT NAS WI LOCATION), HAZMAT Awareness, Operation, and Technician; these certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement, and possess National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. GS-05:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; 2) Assisting with the performance of rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, and eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Operating fire communications equipment; 5) Assisting with controlling hazardous materials incidents; and 6) Assisting in fire protection and prevention.
***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I/II, (Airport Firefighter for Naval Station Whidbey Island), HAZMAT Operations, and CPR.
