Responsibilities

Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to design, build, deploy, maintain (ML CI/CD pipeline) and scale (e.g. distributed training) internally developed data science solutions

Assess feasibility and model building in close collaboration with data scientists

Ensure availability & usability and create measures for reliability and performance of data science solutions

Utilize domain-specific knowledge to ensure relevance of solutions and usefulness of results

Provide basic support in data engineering

Contribute to projects conducted with internal divisions & functions and / or external institutions / vendors to find and / or develop advanced methodologies & technologies to operationalize data science

Consult Evonik divisions and functions in the areas of operationalizing of data science applications

Exchange insights with Evonik colleagues to support organizational learning

Collaborate on a global basis with other departments to create awareness of value generated using data science techniques

Support trainings and development of fellow Evonik employees in data science

Requirements

Masters degree in data-related technical field (depending on the functional location of the machine learning engineer, this can be e.g. Chemical Engineering, Statistics or Computer Science)

Expertise in using real-world data and data science methodologies and technologies to generate new insights

Experience with data collection such as process monitoring sensors, analytical instruments, or related

Programming language expertise in at least python or R

Strong understanding of data structures including tabular, time series, and continuous data

Good working knowledge in database architecture and interactions, preferably including expertise in SQL

Diverse skill set in available data science tools
