This position requires a hybrid work schedule, with the expectation to be in the Columbus, Ohio office two days each week.

This Sr Consultant, Technology Engineer role is responsible for providing technology product roadmaps and senior engineering support for several products in Technology Operations including Test Data Management (Optim), Observability tools (Splunk, Big Panda, New Relic) and Test Environment Management. This role will report to the Director, Technology Product Management in Technology Operations that is accountable for these products.

The responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

Providing engineering leadership support for the Observability dependencies with the ServiceNow reimplementation effort

Provide engineering leadership for all aspects of our observability tooling

Assist with Sr engineering leadership for the execution of our Observability strategy including OTEL based agent deploys, ensuring sound product management constructs are in place and more

Providing engineering leadership support for Test Data Management (Optim) and Test Environment Management

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Abilities and Skills include:

Deep engineering experience, across multiple technologies and platforms

Strong planning skills, specifical technology roadmap development that support project features and enhancements that support business needs

Demonstrated experience working with a wide range of stakeholders including influence, setting roadmap priorities, and ensuring stakeholder input is heard and understood

Experience in industry Observability tooling

A demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly

The Technology Engineer delivers standard and custom technology products based on Nationwide’s architectural standards, technology roadmaps, industry trends and business requirements. You’ll focus on collaboration, data, systems, storage, middleware, network, security and contact center technology products. You’ll also be accountable for the operation and management of the above products in accordance with the business requirements and defined service level agreements (SLAs).

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Partners with Technology Architecture to develop technology product roadmaps.

Responsible for product improvements through optimization, enhancements and the implementation of new features and functions.

Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

Works continuously with other Technology Engineering teams and Technology Architecture to ensure the success of products.

Conducts “proof of concept” labs for enhancements, new solutions and competitive bake-offs.

Defines and ensures all products meet/exceed performance requirements.

Partners with vendors to drive design innovation in product enhancements and improvements.

Provides oversight for technical labs and development environments.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP Technology Engineering Manager/Technology Product Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged (i.e.: AWS, Azure, scripting and development languages, delivery methods, security).

Experience: Ten years of experience with the most complex systems design and troubleshooting. Experience with multiple technologies and within one or more domains. Proven experience contributing to the overall strategic vision and integrating a broad range of ideas regarding technology engineering. Experience as a recognized, sought-after thought leader and expert resource for the resolution of unique or extremely complex technology engineering problems across a systems hardware/software engineering organization. Experience leading the most complex and critical technology engineering projects involving multiple disciplines and impacting multiple business units. Experience with complex solutions: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and package solutions.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong communication skills, knowledge of planning, management and execution of Accelerated Solutions Deliver framework, Information Security acumen. Influencing, negotiation and priority setting is needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Vice President and Human Resources.
