GENERAL SUMMARY

Salary: $47,957.70/annual minimum - $59,947.11/annual mid point (Depending on qualifications)

Responsible for managing all City Court juvenile cases; make sentencing recommendation to the judges; initiate referrals to services to address behavioral, substance use disorder, self-improvement, and safety challenges; monitor compliance with court orders, and prepare statistical information for monitoring program effectiveness, funding and data entry. Also, this position informs and refers juveniles and their families to receive appropriate services in agencies as needed to promote compliance with the rule of law and to discourage criminal conduct. Acts as liaison between the parents, juvenile defendants, diversion programs and court.

SUPERVISION

General supervision is provided by the Court Administrator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.

Provide timely and relevant client assessments to assist Municipal Court Judges and State Prosecutors in making sentencing recommendations for juvenile offenders during all juvenile processing. individual assessments of juvenile defendants to Municipal Court Judges and State Prosecutors;

Assist with juvenile dockets, monitor and prepare all aspects of cases from citation through court date, perform juvenile case and docket maintenance activities, explain terms of court orders, educate and inform juvenile defendants and their parents of Court referrals for needed services and ensure that juvenile defendants and parents understand the contents of their court order, monitor progress by maintaining contact with juvenile defendants, parents, and/or other interested party in person, by telephone, or via e-mail, monitor program compliance and community service, assist juvenile defendants and their parents with court-ordered program or community service information to help promote a successful completion of the court’s orders, and assist parents that are having problems with compliance, prepare documents for Judge’s signature;

Keep abreast of local community agencies programs, county programs and services that are available to juvenile defendants, which may include: drug treatment centers, rehabilitation programs, counseling centers, diversion programs, and/or other related programs; in order to gain information about their programs.

Recruit and evaluate community service placement sites for juvenile defendants.

Explain the participation, behavior, and reporting requirements for successful completion of community service, Juvenile Diversion Program, and other programs.

Prepare a variety of reports for the court and state agencies.

Complete the Juvenile Case Manager required annual training

Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.

Perform other Court-related duties as required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in social science, criminal justice, psychology or social work-related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education may be considered.

Must be able to type a minimum of 35 wpm.

Experience specifically relating to juvenile court programs or social services work.

Two (2) years of experience in the court system is preferred.

Spanish speaking ability is preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Municipal Court Certifications are preferred or to obtain.

Municipal Court Clerk Level I within twelve (12) months of hire.

Municipal Court Clerk Level II within eighteen (18) months of hire.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday -Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Flexible as needed.
