Summary: The Private Event Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting in the running of all events booked through Mane Event Catering. They work closely with management to ensure that the event runs smoothly, including providing communication to others that have ownership in the success of Zoo events, and managing activities to maximize guest satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions:

Coordinates banquet set up including room, food, linens, etc.

Monitor overall event areas for cleanliness and any maintenance issues. Works with custodial and/or maintenance to address areas that need attention.

Attends and participates in weekly meetings including Sales and Operations meetings.

Display a strong sense of urgency.

Maintains regular communication with all Zoo departments.

Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under stressful circumstances.

High standard and an acute attention to detail.

Works closely with Private Event Sales Manager during booking and turnover process.

Works closely with Private Event Coordinator during planning process.

Checks event space before start of events to ensure all requirements are met; coordinates last minute changes as needed.

Ability to work with limited supervision.

Preferred Education and Experience:

2 years of related experience.

Proficiency in catering software such as Caterease

ABC or TIPS certified - Alcohol

Competencies:

Critical thinking/Problem Solving.

Written and oral communication Proficiency.

Proficient in MS Office, Point of Sale Systems, reports creation and data management.

Stress Management/Composure.

Flexibility.

Teamwork Orientation.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Private Event Coordinator, Private Events Sales Manager, Director of Culinary Operations, and Chief Marketing Officer daily.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time, hourly position which requires evening and weekend work.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have to work in outside weather conditions, in additional to a professional office setting. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderately loud when on Zoo grounds and during Private Events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, bending, carrying, lifting and/or moving up to 50lbs. Lifting /moving event items, i.e., tables and chairs is possible at times.
