Position Overview

Town of Vail is hiring a Fleet Supervisor

The Town of Vail is hiring a qualified Fleet Supervisor to join this great team! The position will supervise the Mechanics, Welder, Autobody Tech, and Mechanic Assistant to ensure safe and reliable vehicles & equipment for Town of Vail employees for them to provide outstanding municipal services to our guests and community.

Lead, direct, coach, supervise, and evaluate Fleet Staff by assigning work duties, providing performance feedback, and performing annual performance reviews.

Prioritize work requisitions on all TOV vehicles/equipment with emphasis on Fire trucks, Police cars, Buses, and Plow trucks. Evaluate work requisitions to determine if vehicles are safe to operate.

Coordinates in hiring fleet staff members by screening applications, interviewing applicants and checking references.

Procures equipment, vehicles, and services through specification writing, bidding procedures, and negotiation with suppliers.

Oversees inventory duties, order parts for work in progress and for stock, reconcile incoming parts with work requisitions and the physical inventory.

Schedule preventative maintenance using fleet software and work orders, schedule appointments with customers.

Assist Fleet Purchasing Specialist with any problems in regards to billing, parts, work orders, or inventory.

Perform repairs on TOV vehicles and equipment as time and work load permits.

Maintain files and records of engines, transmissions, and common items and parts for each numbered unit.

Completes cost accounting reports requested by customers or the Fleet Manager.

Maintains shop cleanliness and safety by monitoring the fleet and bus barn facility to insure a safe working environment.

Must be available for phone calls and to work overtime, call back, call-out and weekends.

Is responsible for complying with all Town of Vail safety and health policies, practices, and procedures.

Serve the citizens and guests of the Town of Vail by abiding by all Town of Vail core values.

Perform job in accordance with all Town of Vail safety practices.

Skills / Requirements

Qualified applicants must be self motivated and have the ability to work individually without direct supervision to accomplish multiple tasks.

The position requires hands-on experience and knowledge in vehicle maintenance.

Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred.

Minimum 5 years experience in vehicle maintenance. Supervisory experience preferred.

Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist, or ability to obtain within 2 years.

ASE master certification as Heavy Truck Technician and/or Automobile Technician, or ability to obtain within 1 year. Automobile certification also requires T4 heavy duty brake certificate.

DOT certified annual inspector and brake inspector.

Must have a Colorado class B CDL with a P2 endorsement drivers license, a Class A CDL with P2 endorsement is required within one year of employment.

Journey Mechanic or related field work experience and/or education related to the position.

Solid knowledge of repair and maintenance for a diverse fleet of vehicles/equipment.

Ability to delegate, assign, and schedule job duties from work requisitions and oral requests.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with all personnel and vendors.

Knowledge and ability to maintain an effective vehicle/equipment preventive maintenance program.

Ability to evaluate work performance, provide constructive feedback, coach and motivate personnel.

Proficient use of the computer to include Office, Excel, diagnostic software, and customized Fleet maintenance software.

Must have adequate set of hand tools in a roll-around toolbox.

Physical Requirements

On occasion, requires physical strength/agility/endurance - repairing vehicles/equipment requires lifting, stooping, bending, and physical exertion. Assists with deliveries of parts and supplies that require ability to lift 75 lbs.
