The Assistant General Counsel provides legal advice and legal services through the office of General Counsel at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) for the benefit of NCH, its subsidiaries, and related companies. The Assistant General Counsel serves as a consultant, legal advisor, advocate, and defender, in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and strategic objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal review, analysis, and advice with respect to the legal implications of Hospital policies, procedures, processes, and decisions, with a focus on employment-related matters. • Assists in the preparation and defense of litigation, including the drafting, preparation, and filing of pleadings, discovery, EEOC and OCRC position statements, preparation of staff for their roles as witnesses, and the development of litigation strategy. • Performs legal research and analysis to provide recommendations to General Counsel and other attorneys and/or internal clients. May build creative, practical, and effective solutions to issues with no established precedent. • Assists in supporting the integration of risk management and quality control activities to create an environment that minimizes legal risk to the Hospital, including reviewing, implementing, and monitoring Hospital’s risk management programs and insurance programs. • Provides support to staff members related to subpoenas and other court documents. Provides support to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Integrity and Compliance Program. • Drafts, prepares, and negotiates employment-related contracts. • Participates in Hospital committees as deemed appropriate, attends annual Hospital and departmental fire/safety and infection control training, and maintains current knowledge of safety procedures within the Hospital and department. Qualifications

Education Requirement: Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, required. Experience: At least three years engaged in the practice of law with significant prior experience in employment law, as well as an interest in and aptitude for health care law, risk management, and/or health care related litigation.
