Weekly Hours - FT: 30-40 hours per week Total No. of Hours : 40

Payrate - $56 hourly on W2

Overall Position Summary and Objectives

Under this task order, the contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.

Certifications & Licenses

At least bachelor's degree or master's degree (preferred) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, Biostatistics, or related areas.

The successful candidate must possess excellent skills in algorithmic implementation of statistical models, programming and data manipulation, using e.g. R, Python, and contemporary, opensource bioinformatics tools and database structures (e.g. PLINK, VCFTools, UCSC Genome Browser, etc.).

The candidate must have programming experience with Shell/Bash, Python, C++, and/or R; and be team oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to self-educate in current bioinformatics techniques and resources.

Preferred qualifications include experience with analysis of genetic data including analysis of GWAS summary statistics and familiarity with genetic databases such as dbSNP, TCGA, 1000 Genomes; experience managing large datasets and computational tasks, experience working in a high-performance compute cluster environment.

Candidate will be passionate about analysis of genetic and genomic data related to cancer development, progression, and tumour evolution.

Statement of Work Details

Provides programming and troubleshooting support to the Federal Government in the dissemination of research data.

Install, troubleshoot, and run open-source and commercial scientific software and bioinformatics techniques used in data analysis. 5

Performs computations on research data analysis.

Support and analyse large-scale genetic and genomic data from epidemiological studies. This includes but are not limited to data manipulation, algorithmic implementation, statistical programming, and integrated genomic analyses. 1

Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.

Develop computational pipelines for processing and analysis of a variety of next-generation sequencing data. 2

Provide support and expertise in the Unix operating system and programming languages (including Python, R and C++). 4

Records observations and report results at weekly laboratory meetings.

Contribute to manuscript development, including manuscript drafting and critical review of manuscript content

Provides statistical support / analysis on research data.

Develop robust pipelines to integrate publicly available data into the downstream analysis of NCI-generated data. 3

Provide support and expertise in the Unix operating system and programming languages (including Python, R and C++).

Provides research / service goals in the context of the laboratory's overall mission.

Work with staff on the development and maintenance of bioinformatics tools, scripts and pipelines for data.

Evaluates new types of experimental approaches to protocols based on knowledge of scientific literature, available facilities and research needs.

Collaborate with staff to review current and historical procedures for the acquisition, quality control and management of data.

Independently coordinates the training of personnel in the use of scientific software applications, statistical software applications and programmatic software applications.

Install, troubleshoot, and run open-source and commercial scientific software and bioinformatics techniques used in data analysis.

Initiates interdisciplinary collaborations with other research centres.

Collaborate with group members in experiments associated with data collection.

Deliver at least one presentation per year to audiences outside the Government.

Attend group meetings; present findings; author publications resulting from projects
