National Grid is seeking a Senior Designer within our Transmission Standards team to work as part of a team to review, update, and develop standard drawings using AutoCad software. It is the opportunity to be part of a team involved in the development and implementation of the standards that drive the growth of transmission infrastructure.

This position is located in Northboro, Massachusetts. It is a hybrid role, with 1-2 days in the office weekly. This position requires a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for working with Transmission Standards Engineers to develop and update Transmission Standards drawings.

In conjunction with engineers, develop and maintain systems and procedures to support design solutions that will enhance efficiency and operability.

Technical support provided to various departments including Engineering, Design, and Operations.

Prepare and contribute to the development, technical content and implementation of National Grid’s standards, guidelines, and procedures; identify risks and put in place actions to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.

Attend and participate in conferences and seminars in relation to new technologies, and industry standards to ensure the transmission standards are up to date on technology, fostering future adaption and expansion.

Ability to prioritize work and be a team member on multiple projects at one time under budget and time constraints.

Ability to apply technical expertise to complex issues.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school with knowledge of power systems, and experience in primary design.

Minimum 6 years’ experience in an engineering field related to power systems, transmission and/or distribution engineering, and / or operations and maintenance.

Familiarity with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Technically proficient within detailed design and analysis.

Attention to Detail: Reviews accuracy of own work/designs and checks that all details are completed to specification and can be used by others.

Information Seeking: Establishes the facts by digging deeper, asking probing questions and challenging initial responses from different sources to ensure designs are fit for purpose.

Customer Orientation: Takes a pro-active approach by constantly reviewing standards and specifications and ensuring they are fit for purpose and meet current requirements.

Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, and others in a positive, team building manner.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes.

Ability to manage multiple tasks.

Ability to physically navigate in and around Transmission substations and right of ways.

Able to travel throughout service territories and willing to work extended hours when the job requires. That might include, but is not limited to, system emergencies (storm duties). Driving to other company locations, throughout New England and Upstate NY, for various meetings and training.

Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver Policy.

More Information

Salary: $95,000 - $112,000
