Job Description:
The Computerized Note Taker is responsible for accurately recording professor/speaker presentations, including classroom discussions, and presenting students with comprehensive, unbiased notes. Working in a variety of settings, the incumbent will maintain confidentiality, strategically handle conflicts of interest, and determine appropriate technical terminology. The notes are provided to students who are Hard of Hearing or are Deaf.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with students who are Hard of Hearing or Deaf to provide them with comprehensive, unbiased notes;
Be responsible for accurately making computerized recordings of professor/speaker presentations, including classroom discussions;
Maintain confidentiality, strategically handle conflicts of interest and determine appropriate technical terminology;
Save all work to a USB stick, review notes for grammar and accuracy and send students their notes promptly after the lecture via email;
Consult with faculty regarding appropriate technical terminology to ensure accuracy;
Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and all note taking related information.
Required Qualifications:
Three (3) year diploma / degree or equivalent in Education or related studies;
Ability to type 70 words per minute. Superior verbal and written English language and word processing skills;
Minimum of three (3) years of note-taking experience;
Ability to synthesize dialogue and lectures into accurate and complete study notes;
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information;
Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered;
Excellent interpersonal skills, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
Experience working with students with disabilities is an asset.
