Job Details

Position Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist, Mental Health

Status:

· 2 permanent full-time positions

Hours:

· 35hrs per week, Monday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

· Option to explore compressed work week (10hr shifts) as follows:

o Monday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

o Tuesday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

o Please note that this option is dependant on operational needs.

Faculty/Department: Student Wellness and Equitable Learning - Counselling & Mental Health

Campus/Location: North and Lake Campus (ability to travel between sites required)

Salary: Payband “L”; starting rate $46.80

What you will do:

Working within an interdisciplinary team in the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC) and reporting to the Associate Director of Counselling and Mental health: this position is a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Mental Health, providing direct clinical support and care to learners accessing service through the counselling department. This position promotes the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of learners by means of mental health support, assessment/triage, health education, and crisis intervention. Some of the activities include:

· Leading Clinical Assessments: Conducting thorough assessments for learners presenting in distress to determine the most appropriate care plan; utilizing mental health assessment tools such as the Mental Status Examination to determine risks.

· Education: Providing staff and learners with essential information from a mental health nursing lens i.e., education about psychotropic medications, including their benefits, potential side effects, and proper usage.

· One-to-One Support: providing one-to-one support to learners presenting with mental health concerns.

· Practice lead: Serving as a Clinical Practice Lead and key subject matter expert and liaison as it pertains to mental health, special projects, interdisciplinary care, and design & delivery of wellness education programs.

What you bring to the role:

Education:

· Bachelor of Nursing Degree required.

· Registration with a recognized regulatory college/body in good standing, such as CNO (College of Nurses of Ontario) required.

· Mental Health & Addiction Graduate Certificate or Mental Health Nursing Certificate required.

· Training in crisis intervention and suicide intervention training such as ASIST, Safe Talk is considered an asset.

Experience:

· Minimum of 2 years of Leadership experience i.e., Clinical Practice Lead, Healthcare Leader, Charge Nurse, etc.

· Minimum of 5 years of Mental Health Nursing experience in community-based, hospital or post-secondary interdisciplinary care team.

· Experience in occupational Health Nursing, Health Promotion, or Public Health advanced practice nursing experience necessary to ensure guidelines are met for students and staff in accordance to the requirements to be met from the Health and Safety Act and Hospital Act, Ontario Public Health Association, Ontario University, Colleges, Health Association (Health Promotion) is an asset.

· Experience and specialized knowledge development of mental health projects and health promotion initiatives is an asset.

· Mental Health Nursing case management, project management, and job task analysis experience is an asset.

Skills:

· Knowledge of governing legislation such as the Mental Health Act, PHIPA, RHPA, CNO standards of practice, WHMIS, etc.

· Demonstrated health, education, and mental health support skills.

· Leadership and organizational skills

· Demonstrated competency in addressing issues of sexuality, disability, gender, ethnicity, class and religion within a complex diverse and multi-cultural context.

· Demonstrated commitment to, knowledge of, and skill in application of anti-oppressive and trauma informed practices.

· Excellent communication (verbal/written/ presentation) skills.

· Computer literacy
