About the role:

At Vantage, the Pricing Actuarial Analyst is a member of our Insurance Pricing team. This position will play a critical role in building out the pricing function for the Specialty business units. Our Specialty business units write coverages across multiple lines of business, including Political Risk and Credit and Surety. This position will report to the Pricing Actuary for the Specialty business segments. We are flexible in terms of location, with both remote and in-office options available, but with a strong preference for someone located near New York, NY; Alexandria, VA;

You will work with an established team of underwriters and risks analysts with vast industry experience supporting a variety of functions including model development, industry analysis, rate filing, portfolio analysis, and occasional large account pricing. You will also be part of a growing and highly innovative Data & Analytics organization that is tasked with building and delivering data insights for our business customers and clients that help them to better understand, quantify, and manage their risks differently. We are seeking an energetic, creative, and self-motivated analyst that has a passion for advancing actuarial science with data and analytics.

The base salary expectation for this role is between $90,000 and $120,000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Assist with building and maintaining pricing tools to support Vantage’s Specialty insurance business units.

Perform other actuarial services including, but not limited to, assisting with building aggregate loss distribution models, competitor research, profitability and rate adequacy studies, rate filing assistance, as well as reinsurance support.

Work with risk management, actuarial, and underwriting colleagues to develop portfolio management solutions that help sustain profitable growth across Specialty business segments.

Support individual account pricing.

Find innovative and creative ways to leverage data and analytics to support the pricing and underwriting functions.

Ensure actuarial best practices are upheld, including the establishment and maintenance of pricing guidelines, portfolio monitoring, segmentation analysis and pricing parameters.

Combine the best of actuarial pricing techniques and data science within the Data & Analytics team.

Support building a creative and intellectually curious team culture and enhance multi-disciplinary collaboration.

Remain current on industry trends, tools, and actuarial techniques.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, statistics, economics, or a related field; or the equivalent in related work experience.

Experience in commercial lines pricing preferred; prior experience in specialty pricing, particularly credit and / or surety, highly desirable.

Two or more exams passed preferred and / or a desire to pursue CAS credentials (which would be supported by Vantage).

Strong communicator with ability to collaborate with underwriters and/or other business partners such as claims, finance, accounting, IT, and data & analytics.

A history of being proactive and taking initiative to solve problems, completing work to a high standard, and collaborating with the team and team manager to accomplish goals.

Detail-oriented and a bias for action.

A professional demeanor, whether working virtually or in person with clients and peers of all levels.

Experience in scripting or programming languages strongly desired (Python, VBA, R, SQL).

Skilled with Excel and one database platform.

Willingness to work alongside data scientists and data engineers to develop analytical solutions.
